Re: Matted grass from massive rain and no sun...

Front that gets more sun is starting to come around, but we had rain again last night. This property gets much less sun than my old one, so we are getting good weather at a time when the sun has moved and much of my lawn is in shadows.

There is always next year.

Re: Lawn not doing well

My bewitched in the shadier areas is probably 70% thinned out, matted, flat, black, etc. It just can't dry out. We've had virtually no sun for 5 weeks straight, massive quantities of extremely heavy rain and super high humidity. I'm optimistic it will come back next spring because there are plenty o...

Re: Matted grass from massive rain and no sun...

Just before Sunset I used the blower which seems to have helped and we had the first day with sun, a breeze and low humidity in a long time. That's our sukkah. I'll get the rake out as well. I was/am contemplating renting those big fans you see in a building after a flood, anything to get that area ...

Matted grass from massive rain and no sun...

Blast from the past, still trying to get adjusted to my new home. For the past 4 weeks we've had virtually no sun (a total of 50 hours of sunshine in the month of September (according to my weather station) and constant rain. Didn't help that I used Tenacity about 3 weeks ago to get ahead of poa. Th...

Re: Summer Patch Survival Thread...

I used the backpack. I think its best to apply it to soil that is somewhat moist already, if the soil is too dry then it won't flow down to the roots that need protecting.

Re: Summer Patch?

Search for my threads on Summer Patch, its nasty. You'll need Heritage or equivalent to get any kind of treatment, then you'll need to baby those spot and water them through September. It's a nasty problem and its in your soil forever. The key is managing it early in the spring. You have pretty good...

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...

I've got a bad leak in the house from flashing around the chimney that has ruined my floors in my family room. Trying to get a roofer here with single degree temps and snow on the roof isn't so easy.

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...

Been there, bro! :banghead: Not to derail, but I'm a huge fan of the smart home. I have a two zone HVAC system but don't have thermostats yet. Can't imagine 7 zones. To get totally off topic... We have each of the upstairs bedrooms on their own zone (with a VAV); my son is in college and my daughte...

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...

I don't want to do it again, not sure it was worth it in the long term. The guy who bought my place is the beneficiary of that work, not sure he has any idea (almost had tears in my eyes when I had to go there to pick up a package that was sent there by mistake).

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...

Thanks guys. Before the hard freeze Friday night the last 7 days was 51 degrees, the lawn barely grew 1 inch over the prior 11 days before last mow. And its Bewitched. All that to me said this was pretty close to an ideal time to winterize. Also, forecast is such that average temps for next two week...

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...

Cleaned out the beds and leaves this past Sunday (used to take multiple weekends at the old house, was able to do it in one loooong day here). Put final urea down and watered it in. The party damage is pretty much filled in other than the area by one of the pots that kept getting washed out. https:/...

Re: SNOWBOB11 Bewitched Monostand Renovation 2017

The cold snap would just slow down the growth. Ideally you want the bleaching gone before the grass stops growing so the entire blade is working for you and helping create carbs for the winter...

You'll be OK so long as you don't get a nasty cold snap in the next 2-3 weeks.

Re: SNOWBOB11 Bewitched Monostand Renovation 2017

You may not be poa free and a first year lawn is a slow grower, but even one more application after seeding makes a huge difference.

Re: SNOWBOB11 Bewitched Monostand Renovation 2017

My lawn took a real beating from Tenacity, which was exacerbated from leaf spot. It's a bit more than 1 year old and I wanted to make sure I got the poa. The last Tenacity hit (3x at 4 oz/acre rate) was 9/25, and the recover is showing now (as well as the lack of poa). I still have 6 solid weeks of ...

I've planted them as late as Thanksgiving but anytime from now until around 12/1 seems work out fine.

Re: SNOWBOB11 Bewitched Monostand Renovation 2017

Its so late that the difference between Prodiamine and Dimension is pretty small; you really only need 60-75 days of coverage at that point.

I would try to put it down and perhaps put a drop cloth over the baby seedlings.

Re: SNOWBOB11 Bewitched Monostand Renovation 2017

If you have hit every blade 2x with the mower I would consider getting that pre-M down within a week, as well as tenacity (even if the latter is at a low dose). You have such awesome establishment now I think you need to keep that poa at bay.
