Re: Warm Season Shade Grass

Considering the size of your front lawn is pretty small I would look into converting it to either Zeon zoysia or Jamur zoysia. Both of these are improved zoysia varieties that offer quite a bit of shade tolerance and would make for an awesome lawn! Zeon claims to be the most shade tolerant of all zo...

Re: Emerald Zoysia yellow patches

That could very well be dog urine or a spill of some type of household cleaner, oil, or gas. Not anything related to disease or turf problems. Whatever the substance it has burned and killed the area. It should fill in over time, assuming the dog finds another area or nothing else is spilled... whic...

Re: What's wrong with my zoysia? - Pics

If you could give a lil more history of what's been done to the lawn before this happened, it may help us identify the problem. Thatch, although a problem in some zoysia is usually never directly related to areas just dying off. Thatch will usually effect the quality of the lawn and allow other pest...

Re: Trivialis in Bermuda, need help

I'm not familiar with northern climates, but I will say that in my experience poa triv does not appear as a noxious weed unless it was seeded there accidentally or purposely. Poa annua, is one of the most common noxious grassy weeds in northern and southern climates and is notable for infesting cool...

Re: Can You Help Identify What's Wrong with my Bermuda?

Try just spraying a basic insecticide, You might have a sod webworm moth. I had the same problem yard thinning. I never paid any attention but as I walked around the yard little nat like things would fly around my feet. After a couple of apps once a wk problem solved. I had so much rain in July & A...

Re: Side cut picture of Patriot Bermuda at 2

You are gonna find differences with every cultivar of bermuda out there. For the most part, 419 has a range from about .5" to 1.5" in which it performs its best. You take it much under .5" for extended periods and it will start declining over time. Bermuda greens are different cultivars that require...

Re: 1st house, 6" Bermuda on lawn. Advice?

Mow it down to about 2" and collect all the clippings. As others mentioned preemerge for winter/spring weeds. Your not gonna hurt that bermuda! You could also give it a light dose of fertilizer if you buy fertilizer blended preemerge.

Re: To Sod or not To Sod

If you can afford it give zoysia lots of consideration! I am a big fan of Zeon, Jamur, Cavalier, and Palisades. I would probably rank them in that same order! You would gain a solid month or more in spring green up alone! [ Post made via Android ] http://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/images/mobile/Andr...

Re: Hell strip leveling project/experiment

Be sure to supplement with 1lb of K/M. Scalping like that depletes carbohydrates in the plant and it also needs a reserve for winter. By depleting those reserves you are stressing the plant at a time it needs to be storing those nutrients for winter survival! Just a heads up! [ Post made via Android...

Most all zoysia cultivars stripe about the same. It will be dependent on your mower and height of cut. I have a Exmark for my home with a rear roller and the Pallisades really stripes well.

Re: New yard advice

Meyer has been around for years and has always been the standard for much of the transition zone when it comes to zoysia. Now days there are many improved zoysia cultivars that practically blow Meyer away in my opinion. One of the biggest drawbacks about zoysia is that it is slow to spread. Anytime ...

Thanks guys my neighbor 3 houses down just put in fescue. I will see what his looks like Fescue in your area looks great in spring and late fall, but it burns up and looks like crap during the summer months. If you go that route be prepared to reseed every fall, along with aeration and lots of wate...

I am a couple hours west of you in TN and my Stockdale's store still has MSMA available in 2.5 gallon jugs. Get you some if it is available in your area and it will wipe it out no problem IF you can get it on one of these days with temps still in the 90's. You might could try in upper 80's, but you ...

Re: Best Bermuda seed for Arakansas

I would not pre-emerge the area this fall. Seeding rye to cover any loose soil would be a great idea and should be no problem to knock out in the Spring with glyphosate. I think seeding with Riviera will give you good results and over the years if you want to transplant hybrid into those areas you c...

Re: To Sod or not To Sod

I am very familiar with your area, as I do not live very far away. There is nothing wrong with sodding this time of year providing you have good site prep and everything in place. I recommend you get a soil test specifically for the benefit of adjusting your ph. Adjusting your ph is easier if you ca...

Re: Fall time pre-m?

Pendulum can also be a good Pre-M. It is cheap and very effective. I like the 3.3 EC formulation. You should use the label rate and apply now then wait 5-6 weeks and apply again. Using split applications with Pre-M insures maximum effectiveness. I also like to rotate my Pre-M products to keep from d...

Re: Best Bermuda seed for Arakansas

I can relate to your situation an offer some advice because I am pretty much doing the same, albeit on 4+ acres. For seed, I would use Riviera bermuda as it is one of the best seeded varieties and is very well suited for your area. There are a few others, mainly La Prima XD that I would consider als...

Didn't know q4 killed goosegrass. Sent from my iOS device using the Yard Help App Yeah you are correct, it will do a number on crabgrass, but it will only kill young goosegrass. If you have bad infestation of goosegrass I would go with the dismiss/revolver combo at the appropriate rate. I have actu...
