Re: Yellow Nutsedge?
That does not look like Yellow Nutsedge to me. It lacks the central core where the leaves just at soil level come together and the nutlets/tubers are below the soil/root level.

Re: Warning about Internet newsletter lawn advice
I know a friend that claims that he can write 5000 words on any subject. About 500 of the words have any value.

Chances are good that you are OK, unless the Pre_M was washed off the soil during the initial rain.

Re: 2024 Soil Test Interpretation Queue
I cleaned up the Soil Interpretation Queue and the Topic Title. Morph, thank you for carrying the ball while I wasn't here and carrying my share. I took a long hiatus after my retirement (WORK retirement) and I've been at my place in Key Largo. I've been doing moderator stuff in the background. I'm ...

I was in Manhattan (NYC) Tuesday - Thursday. With 500 pts possible, it was 484 pts. The sky and air was completely pumpkin-colored, and just breathing was a chore.

Re: lVlrBoJang1es 2023 Soil Test
Interesting!! It only takes a minute to figure out that those are different soils you sampled. Both soils have a nice TEC at 8 and 9, and it's probably the organic matter being higher in the Back that is lifting the TEC a bit. The OM is not high enough though, and you should push lots of compost, pe...

Re: Reseeding lawn and pre soak grass seed
I guess I just don't get it...
With pre-soaking the grass will germinate in 5 days. Seeding into the lawn germinates in 5-8 days for TF. And 5 lbs of TF won't even cover 1000 sq ft.
Changing water twice a day in how many buckets? I don't see the value or time saved.

Re: Reseeding lawn and pre soak grass seed
There are a lot of questions we need to ask in order to offer opinions: (1) what do you mean by "reseed"? Are you completely redoing the yard, or just reseeding bare spots? It matters as it takes 6-8 lbs per 1000 sq fr for Tall fescue if you're doing full areas from scratch. That's 33' x 33'. (2) Ho...

Re: Round up for lawns...
Yes. I dredged up an old thread I wrote in 2010, and it discusses using Quinclorac as both a pre-emergent and a post-emergent. While many companies now include Quinclorac, back in 2010 it wasn't a popular ingredient yet. Check this old thread: https://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17...

Re: help with sod on top of hard clay
You might want to dig a hole with vertical sides, and see what a profile of the soil looks like. You could also fill the hole with water once you've seen the profile, See how long it takes to drain to empty. That will teach you a lot about the makeup of the soil. Post the results.
