Re: Yet Another Organic Fert question

As soon as you see a nitrogen level of 18, you know it's not a pure organic.
I swear that I had the exact same reaction to that sentence.

Re: Windows 7

I delayed getting Windows 10 up until this past spring. Well, you're most likely doing the Windows 10 stuff just as they're about to announce the end-of-support for Windows 10, and a likely date of 2025. They are about to announce what is being called (not officially yet) "Windows 11". Best guess s...

Re: Building the (Semi)permenant Home Office

So Andy, what 43-inch monitor did you get? I haven't shopped for hardware since 2014, so I'm out of practice.
I got the TCL 43S435. The important element is the 4:4:2 Chroma sampling - without that text can be an eyestrain. I got mine at BestBuy.

Re: Schreibdave's 2021 Soil Test

OK, then let's go... Structurally, the soil is nice - it's got a high (but not crazy) TEC and an OM% over 5%. It will hold onto nutrients well. The questions start with the cations - Calcium and Magnesium are rising - but without a source to supply them. And as they rise, they seem to be displacing ...

Re: Nanakisaju’s first soil test

Good on the Lime.

10-10-10 goes down at 10 lbs/K monthly, but not July 1 - August 15th. Also, try to avoid having the Lime app and 10-10-10 app within two weeks of each other.

There are no other nutrients being used other than what you listed above? I see some soil activity and up/down movement that can't be explained by what you've listed...

The applications are for one growing season. Then we see what next year's test results say.

A fearsome foursome member!!!

Get Twenty Mule Team laundry soap from the grocery store, and Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate and Zinc Sulfate from Amazon or EBay. Apply at 3 tablespoons/K each as outlined in the Micronutrient Application Guide. Repeat every 60 days.

Your call - you're on-scene and we're not. With irrigation, it should not be an issue in June in the Northeast.

Test your proposed regimen on a 100 sq ft area, and see if it works for you.

Re: Losing color

Given your soil test results and calcareous soil scenario, the only thing I can see as being helpful for color would be foliar FAS treatments.

I use Preferred Seed (Buffalo NY). You're not going to find these guys advertising or putting it in nice boxes. You have to find them. The Sod Farmers know where they go. The good stuff takes work.

Re: Seed Recommendation - MN - Large Lawn - No Irrigation

I can't emphasize enough how important it is to spend a little more money and time to locate and buy "sod quality" ("gold label") seed, instead of buying on price alone. I try and look seed that has for “0” weeds and “0” noxious weeds on the seeds I buy. This will NOT save you from seed that is tain...

Re: Japanese Stiltgrass: Keep Your Eyes Open

Pre-emergents only protect against future germination (with very few exceptions). Treat breakout patches of Stiltgrass as you find them (with Acclaim), and make it a point to treat this as a 2-year plan even when you don't see visible Stiltgrass. Assume it is present. When your property backs up to ...

Re: Red thread

Andy- would any over-seeding run the risk of overcrowding? Of course it will. Unless the new seed buys the existing grass a one-way ticket to Vegas, where else would it go? Can you recommend a different brand of seed to use. My lawn currently is a northern mix. It was nothing to do with "brands". "...

Re: Deer Repellent

I use Liquid Fence and it works very well. I have pretty successfully extended the effective life of applications of Liquid Fence by an extra 2-3 weeks by adding Nu-Film P, which forms a film that prevents it from washing off easily. With 700 hostas, it takes quite a while to treat them all. BTW, I ...

Re: BG South Carolina Soil Test - Centipede

Spittin, you made me laugh. not at you, but at the scenario you're in. You've got a soil that is perfect for Bermuda and an attitude of attention and high-input care, and you're applying it to trying to manage a grass that almost thrives on low-inputs and near-abuse. If there is anything you're doin...

Re: Nanakisaju’s first soil test

If you buy the good lime (Encap/Mag-I-Cal/Solu-Cal) you can put it down right away. If you wuss out and get the not-so-hot stuff, it will sit in the upper soil and I personally wouldn't put it down on new sod.

Re: Red thread

Not really, and you could make things worse. Adding Bewitched to a Northern Mix is going to make a Northern Mix with Bewitched lawn. If the lawn is reasonable thick/dense, you could make it crowded, which is a recipe for additional/increased fungal disease.
