Re: 2021: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
I’m in California and did my first cut since November. Dropped some fert to even out the dark green patches from our dog’s pee.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Dethatched for the first time. Started out with a rake but ended up renting a power raker. I completely filled my green waste bin with dead grass. I was blown away by how much there was. This may have been why my grass had not been such a deep green. Time will tell. How is your lawn looking now tha...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Top dressed with compost and peat moss. Over seeded as well with 4th millennium. Hoping for the best as the heat is picking back up this week in my area. Should be the last wave before it cools down.

Re: Water habits during Summer heat waves
Very interesting. I have a small yard so the expenses would not be outrageous. I’m going to keep this bookmarked in case I do a future Reno.

I may have to lead by example. The neighbors might not like it though.

Re: 2020 RichardGrasser Soil Test
Andy, We have a new dog and the pee spots are growing a nice deep green grass with vigorous growth. It’s a glimpse of what the lawn should look like. She’s a female small breed puppy so a squatter. What’s your take on this? Our previous small dog pee caused the same though he only peed in one genera...

Re: Water habits during Summer heat waves
Dchall, my dog ensured the cat food Can was licked clean prior to use. I cleaned out the filter screens on a few sprinklers over the weekend and I’m hoping this helps but I haven’t yet remeasured. Definitely had some debris in there. But I still think I’m going to have to add sprinklers based on cur...

Re: Water habits during Summer heat waves
I’ve noticed when my neighbors water they get major runoff. The base soil is similar to clay. I can even tell when some of the neighbors up the street over water as it drains down to the gutter. Not my lawn though. I have attributed it so far to the 3” of 70/30 we laid prior to the sod. I only get r...

Re: Water habits during Summer heat waves
Hi Andy, I’m currently at 18mins per cycle and I’m watering at 4:30am. The cat food can test tells me I’m at or slightly over 1” actual per cycle. I have the hunter x core with sensor and it automatically adjusts the duration on its own. I’m theoretically dropping 3” per week right now and the grass...

Water habits during Summer heat waves
What’s everyone doing during the summer heat waves to keep the lawn watered sufficiently? I’m in Northern California and it’s been at or over 100 for a while now. I added a third watering day to help. I have a smart irrigation controller that I’m constantly fighting. I also supplemented with hose wa...

Re: 2020 RichardGrasser Soil Test
I plan on using a compost mix that my local soil supplier carries. It a blend of different compost types without soil mixed in.

Re: 2020 RichardGrasser Soil Test
Andy, I appreciate the thorough response. 15-15-15 is available locally and is what I plan to use. The temperature here has approached the mid 90's, can I do any damage by top dressing in this heat or is it best to wait until the weather cools? I am interested in the micro's if you have any suggesti...

2020 RichardGrasser Soil Test
Hello, please help with my backyard: 730sqft new construction. Planted sod in May of 2019 90% fescue/10% KBG. Prep included approximately 3" of 70/30 mix along with a bit of pure humus. Subsoil appears to be clay. I mow when necessary but approximately 1x per week when growing; all bagged. I was wat...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Collected and shipped samples for soil testing. Laid down fungicide for the first time ever. Redid my irrigation schedule for deep infrequent watering. Skipped mowing this week.
