No def not normal. Looks like Apple scab to me. Pretty serious.

Re: Weed B Gone vs CCO

I mix 2oz of WBG & 1.5 of CCO in a gallon sprayer and have great results. I'm not 100% sure if that's Best Lawn approved but it works for this lazy pollock...

Re: low maintenance, bright red perennials

For long periods of flowering I'm going to suggest a annual. Salvia will bloom from early summer to fall in your zone. It's low maintenance and looks great. Google 'Red Salvia' and let me know what you think.

Does it have to be a perennial? Ideally how long do you want it to flower for?

We got around 7' to 9' last night. That's on top of the foot or so on the ground already. Now on to this "Arctic Vortex" that's hitting West Michigan. Highs of 5° with wind chill getting it down to -20°… Fun stuff. [ Post made via Android ] http://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/images/mobile/Android.png

Left alone! Don't cut the top growth. In most zones they are semi evergreen. They are not like hostas, so I repeat...leave the top growth.

Re: Need advice on a tree in MA

Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry. Love it. Great 3 season tree. One of the first trees to bloom in Spring with gorgeous white flowers. Serviceberries in early summer, birds go crazy for them (not a messy tree for me so far... The birds stripped all the berries off in a week) . Great red fall color (It...

Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insect Control. Works systematically. I applied it this Spring on my crabapple and cherry trees. Seems to be working pretty good.

Re: Is it possible to keep perenial rye from going dormant h

Lots of water. Soil temps should be in the mid 80's for u in the east side of the statr. With lots irrigation Rye shouldn't go dormant.

I'd skip the mushroom compost and use something else. I remember reading that it runs "hot" (for seeding) and is high in soluble salts.

Re: Hydrangea Tips

Yea I'd move it... in the fall or next spring when its dormant. Most hydrangea prefer at most part sun. If your looking for a hydrangea that can take full sun look into 'Hydrangea Paniculata' cultivars (Limelight, Quickfire, Pinky Winky). [ Post made via Android ] http://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/im...

You want more reason then that? LOL.

Tree roots need air. Secondary feeder roots coming off main roots are only a few inches deep. Raise the level of the soil above these roots and you can kill the tree.

Re: Berm around trees?

Don't raise the soil level over tree roots. It might just kill the tree. And don't mulch volcano around a tree. Both are very bad for the health of your tree(s).
