Ficus Nitida Suddenly died.
Hi, I'm back again with my endless tree issues. In the begining of 2022, I had my gardener plant privacy hedges using 15 gallon indian laurel trees. about 14 of them in a row. Theyve been thriving and growing great since then. Today I noticed one of the trees is completely dead looking. It has dropp...

Re: Help needed on Fern Pine (Podocarpus Grailior)
So another update from my side. Of my 6 podocarpus trees. They were recovering from the shock of being planeted in Dec 2020. Finally after an entire year and a half, all 6 had recovered and were showing new growth. I have been super happy....... Recently (a month and a half or so ago) I also put in ...

Re: Is this California Pepper Doomed?
Well to your point, this same tree dropped a few seeds that germinated and started growing right under the tree. theyre about 4-5 inches tall right now. I carefully dug them up with all the soil around the roots remaining and re-potted then a few weeks ago. they survived and are growing. But i'll ha...

Re: Fruitless Pair Fire blight
Nope. I dont have good luck in general. Ive lost 6 or 7 mature trees at this property in the last 8 years of ownership. 3 fully grown mature california peppers. 2 of those were for unkown reasons. 1 due to wind. I also lost 2 brazillian peppers due to armarilla fungus, both were very large and matur...

Re: Is this California Pepper Doomed?
just an update on my treated pepper. It hung on for a few months. I saw some new growth in April on the top of one of the branches, way at the top. Then it all dried up and died. The tree is dead other than a few suckers coming off the lower part of the trunk. What a waste. Absolutely disheartening ...

Fruitless Pair Fire blight
I have a 25-30 year old mature fruitless pair in my driveway that's been thriving and growing for years. This year I noticed that it had some dead shoots coming off of the growth. looking at it closer it appears the tree has fire blight. I've lost so many trees at my property, and this one gives my ...

Re: Is this California Pepper Doomed?
So update on this tree I had an arborist come in January and take a look, he mentioned that the tree had a good chance of survival if we pruned it, watered it regularly and injected it with some fertilizer. Went ahead and did all that and spent a fortune. Thinking that the money I spent would be che...

Re: Help needed on Fern Pine (Podocarpus Grailior)
Good of you to update this thread! Glad to see your trees are recovering, mine are recovering too, they bounced back late summer last year. I discovered I had to give them deep root watering once a week or so in the heat and also I gave them a ton of miracle grow. How much are you watering these tre...

Re: Is this California Pepper Doomed?
Thanks for your help, I will look around for my local extension office for sure. What's weird is the tree has a bunch of suckers sprouting but the rest of it is dying back....

Re: Is this California Pepper Doomed?
Unfortunately, yes, they're amongst the short-lived trees. It does vary, with lifespans from 30 to 150 years (I can't tell if that's an actual California Pepper [longer-lived] or the Brazilian Pepper as I'm not a practiced eye and don't have closeups of the leaves). If one next to it already died, ...

Is this California Pepper Doomed?
So this tree is roughly 25-30 years old, thrived for many years and is located growing on a slope, it is growing right next to a very tall eucalyptus tree. Probably about 5 years ago, it got attacked by a woodpecker, which did quite a bit of damage to the bark but the tree, for the longest time seem...

Re: Help needed on Fern Pine (Podocarpus Grailior)
update: So i gave them a feeding with the miracle grow mentioned here last week. Overall the leaves look kind of dark on that particular tree but i did notice some new growth popping up, but only on the side of the tree facing away from the sun. Out of my 6 podocarpus trees, 3 of them have lighter c...

Re: Help needed on Fern Pine (Podocarpus Grailior)
Thanks for sharing that information. Unfortunately these guys were in 24" boxes and planted into the ground now. One thing to note, the wilting/dropping of leaves started before I treated them with epsom salt. Is there any way to tell what's causing the leaf drop? Any tests I can do? Should I try wi...

Re: Help needed on Fern Pine (Podocarpus Grailior)
This is great information! About 6 months ago, I planted 6 Podocarpus Grailior trees, theyre about 10-12ft in height. 3 of them went into shock and lost all their leaves and have been slowly growing back. I water them once a week or so with deep watering. It appears all 3 have slowly started bouncin...
