Well right now you’re at the time of year where you don’t want to fertilize, likely past your average first frost date. I’d wait for growth to fully stop and then fertilize.
Without water?

Dropping fert w/o rain

Can I drop fertilizer this time of year without watering it in?

I don't have irrigation. In NJ. Thanks.

Re: Grub treatment now

What about grub killers such as Dylox?

Can those be out down now or is it too early?

Grub treatment now

I have grubs every year.

At this time of the year do I put down a preventative or a curative treatment?

Located in NJ. Thanks.

Re: Need to water in fertilizer this time if year?

I can't wait. I have put it down this weekend. No time during week because of work.

Next rain is likely Tuesday night.

Need to water in fertilizer this time if year?

Rain is in the forecast for later this week. So it would only be down for 2 - 4 days without being watered in.

Also, is it OK to put down lime at the same time as fert?

Location is NJ. Temps are in 60s today but will be dropping into the 40s this week.

Re: I think I messed up

Turns out I did get some germination on the fecue seed.

My plan is to plant a shade tree in the area in the Spring. It may keep the zoysia from taking over there. If not, I may just live with it.

Re: I think I messed up

I did seed. See post above.

Nothing germinating. It's difficult to keep moist w/o irrigation (just have a sprinkler) and we are in a drought.
And the zoysia thatch is thick. Was thinking as a long shot, something quick germinating might be better than the fescue seed I tried.

Re: I think I messed up

Should I drop some fast germinating annual grass seed or PR now so don't have a giant dirt/dead patch all winter?

Re: I think I messed up

Well, I mowed short and overseeded the zoysia. But it doesn't look likely that I'll get much germination because the zoysia is too thick. I'm not sure what my options are at this point. I'm between a) trying to kill as much of the zoysia as I can now and attempting a spring seed or b) giving up and ...

Re: I think I messed up

I hit the zoysia with roundup again today and fertilized it to try to force growth of what was left of it.

Would a dormant seed over the winter have a shot of growing on top of the (mostly) dead zoysia?

I think I messed up

My lawn in NJ is mainly unimproved tall fescue. I noticed zoysia encroaching on sections and sprayed it with round up. Now I have sections of zoysia dying but I don't have the time, energy, or money to cut it all out. I also don't have irrigation and we're in a drought. I probably should have just l...

Zoysia invasion, help

I noticed some patches of zoysia in my fescue lawn. Must have come from the neighbors from under a hedge row at our property border. I hit it with tenacity to be able to see how much there was and it was more than I thought. In the pics you can see the white sections. I was thinking I would get some...

Re: Grub curative timing

Thanks, Morph. You're saying not to apply until I see there's a definite problem. But I've had grub problems for 5+ years (I always forget to do a preventative in spring). I was hoping to get the curative down early this time as I see no reason to think I won't have a problem again this year. I know...

Grub curative timing

I've had grubs destroy parts of my lawn for the last several years. And I forgot to put down something preventative this spring. When can I put down something curative? I need to plan ahead as I don't have irrigation and will be on vacation in parts of August. As far as what to use, I see Lowes has ...

Re: Does Tenacity kill Dallisgrass?

It's almost like the triclopyr is bouncing off the leaves and not sticking. I wonder if a surfactant is needed. Or if I should spray after mowing when the stalks are cut and open.
