Re: Who's vaccinated?

As I noted on my Artists thread, I dyed three times after my first Moderna dose, so maybe that should be a listed side effect. But all three dye batches came out successfully, so that's good.

Re: Springtime Rose Care

You're good. Feed roses now for good first blooms, and for Knockouts (that bloom fast and hard through the entire season if encouraged), keep feeding at least monthly through the season (until late summer). For less energetic bloomers, spring feeding and again in June will be sufficient. You usually...

Re: Artists?

I got the Moderna vaccine on Tuesday and I dyed three times within 36 hours. Maybe I should put in a vaccine report? I'll be back up to speed here shortly. Much of my spare time is going to putting in 10 yards of mulch, finishing off 13 flats of plants for the season (which then have to be planted i...

Re: 2021 is Cicada Brood X Year

Last time, I had three of the things. At work, it was a cicada-fest. Did somebody remind them to wear teeny-tiny masks?

Re: Who's vaccinated?

The morning after, I feel fine. A little head fog, a slightly sore arm. That's all that remains. I'd rank it as 1/20th as bad as a tetanus shot, which tends to knock me on my butt. One other person in my game group got his shot yesterday as well and we both had nearly identical side effects, with th...

Re: Who's vaccinated?

And, as of this morning, I guess nobody's getting the JJ vaccination so it's a moot point... I did get my Moderna vaccine at a Friendly Local Hospital this morning myself, however. Injection #1 complete. Seven hours later, accelerated heart rate, headache, a slight fever, and so on, so about normal ...

Re: New Shelf

No need. There's pantry shelving in the basement with, amongst many other things, 10 rotated packs of TP. This pandemic taught us a lot of things.

Re: Spring Lawn Care / Northern Virginia

For now, just wait--feeding or doing much in spring other than let the lawn do its thing (particularly in areas further south) isn't a great idea. Take care of weeds, irrigate if necessary, mow. That covers it.

Mow high, irrigate deeply and rarely, and feed it on Memorial Day.

Re: Controlling a lesser Celandine

DMSO is a penetrant that will render most herbicides incredibly more effective in most cases. Now a warning. Because it'll also carry them right through your skin as though your skin were tissue paper. I treat this stuff as though it could kill me, because it can. By itself, it's fairly harmless in ...

Re: Tenacity + Scotts Turf Builder Crabgrass Preventer

Yeah, Weed B Gon (or, as I usually recommend, going straight to Weed B Gon Chickweed, Clover, and Oxalis or the Crabgrass version as it has a wider kill) will take quite a bit of that out. That's base of the pyramid. And I'd spot spray that instead. I'm never a fan of blanket-spraying as it's a stra...

Re: Hell Strip full of tree roots.....

I've been chewing on this one (and I've been really busy). There's not much you can do. Tree roots do that if the soil is damp, sometimes, or just if they feel like it, or if space is tight. You can cut the roots and remove them, but it's a big job. Then add soil, stabilize the soil heights, and so ...

Re: 2021: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

I actually did the first mow--rather late--on about half the lawn that had started growing. The minor damage from the snow mold is fading out nicely, but is still there in places.

Re: Controlling a lesser Celandine

(cough) try Tenacity (cough). (cough) At your own risk, if that doesn't work, add a tablespoon of DMSO (dimethylsufloxide) to the mix. It won't harm grass, but you absolutely must wear long pants, long sleeved shirt, and impenetrable gloves like rubber, latex, or nitrile while applying this. And sho...

Re: Who's vaccinated?

I think you're overly pessimistic about the JJ vaccine. From what I've read, it was tested in different conditions. And it's 100% effective at preventing hospitalizations and death, which is the main concern. I got Pfizer, but if i got JJ, I'd be happy. Probably. I'd prefer something that's 90% eff...

I knew somebody was going to comment on that. :-) Yeah, we keep an old one around in case of power loss. It's come in handy a time or two as the only working telephone in the house when the power goes down. Or the nieces visit as they'll happily disconnect the master phone to charge devices (in a ho...

Before and After. Or, Curl Up And Dye. This was a stovetop dye process. Rit DyeMore tends to be less saturated than others (like Jacquard), which is why I chose it for this shirt. I wanted a darker, more subtle green, not leprechaun bait, for this particular shirt which is a bit older and has a stai...

Re: Who's vaccinated?

Awesome! And with that, I did just get a call to schedule an appointment for mine--next Tuesday. One city down the line, so a bit of a drive, but no big deal. I have no idea which vaccine I'm getting and don't much care. Although if it's the Johnson and Johnson I'll consider myself unvaccinated unti...

Re: Need some clarification....

Do it separately and spot spray with the CCO; there's no need or reason to blanket spray the entire lawn, stress the poor thing, and overapply an herbicide. CCO can also sit in the sprayer for a very long time. When I find out how long, I'll let you know. My tank is turning 3 this year, still works ...

Re: Artists?

I had been given two pairs of white pants (which I would never wear as I don't wear white [plus a ton of other pants of colors I will wear]) and a ton of white shirts (which I will wear, but not that many) by the widow of a gentleman who passed away. I knew both very well, so I was glad and honored ...

Re: Need some clarification....

Two weeks before water-in is acceptable, so rain before the 22nd would be just fine if you sprayed today. :-) It has been a very dry spring, so one thing to consider here is that, although it's time, the weeds are also not sprouting very well. It's simply too durned dry. Here in PA, I see a possibil...
