Re: GrubEx Return or Apply NOW in NJ
Thanks G-man, that article is what lead me to choosing grubex (nicer to the honey bees). Just thought I've seen others point out the northern location of that article, affecting the exact dates of drop time and was afraid I missed my window. Hopefully with the irrigation helping the natural precipit...

GrubEx Return or Apply NOW in NJ
Life got away from me and I know I should have applied earlier, but my life and the weather didn't cooperate this year. I had grubs last year and applied Bayer 24hr last year and planned on using GrubEx this year... but didn't. I've seen grubs in my beds already and wanted to do another round this y...

Re: Bulk Herbicide Mix
Since brand doesn't matter, when buying larger quantities, is the general blend of the three AI's listed in step one of the Triangle Approach the only "formula" I should worry about and not the specific ratios of each ingredient? Is Quinclorac a better option than MCPP, which it seems to replace in ...

Re: Bulk Herbicide Mix
For my clarification, the "mixes" you are suggesting buying at TSC are similar to the mix in WBG Max (2,4-D, mecoprop-p and dicamba, I think) and not the mix in Crossbow, right? Are the no-name/TSC brands ratio of active ingredients the same as in WBG Max, possibly higher contrations, requiring more...

Re: Weeds and Fall Over Seed Plan
Will knowing the intended s/f and using a hose end sprayer work for step 1 & step 2 or do I need to be more exact? Should I apply dimension at listed bag rate for 2-3 months worth of preM in May followed by a heavy over seed in late Aug or are there lingering detrimental effects to seeding and I sho...

Weeds and Fall Over Seed Plan
I'm going to list a bunch of facts and answer any extra questions from you guys and am completely ok with being told that I have it all wrong. 1. TTTF mix from several different brands at the big box store. 2. I did a winter over seed which kept me from using a preM. Large portions of my lawn, inclu...

Re: Obtaining OM from woodpile leftovers
So... mechanically breaking it down into smaller particles will allow me to spread it more easily and allow it to further decompose on top of the soil with direct access to the air.
That's my plan.
Thanks all.

Obtaining OM from woodpile leftovers
I deleted this thread from the soil management section and moved it here since it is an organic question and the soil management section seemed geared towards the soil tests.... I'd like to incorporate the bark and mess left behind from splitting/stacking wood that we burn in our stove into the soil...

Re: Time to shampoo the lawn!
Repost from a different topic... I had a very slow growing lawn and very compacted soil (enough to prevent me from taking soil samples until this fall when the soil conditioner, hopefully, allows me to get deeper than 2"). Over the past 2-3 months, I have applied the soil conditioner/kelp help using...

Re: Time to shampoo the lawn!
I use the BL soil conditioner and it is quite dark and easy to see the volume in the tank on the hose end sprayer. I don't measure per gallon either. I know the size of the sections of my lawn and I use the oz markings on the hose end sprayer to determine when I have spread enough of the solution on...

Re: Kelp Help / Soil Conditioner Applications
Understood. So far, not much in the way of results. We have had a wet couple of weeks, I'm thinking that will help with diluting my over application. I had a gas line put in from the street in January and all along the slice from the machine that pulled the line my grass was dark and green and growi...

Re: Kelp Help / Soil Conditioner Applications
.... so .... I learned one thing today and I guess we will all learn something over the next couple weeks. I learned that when you remove the screen from the Ortho hose end sprayer, it sucks up the kelp help and soil conditioner significantly faster than when the screen is attached. With the screen,...

Re: Kelp Help / Soil Conditioner Applications
Barley, forgot to thank you for the idea. My pool, garage, driveway separate my yard into 4, or so, average to small sized lawns that don't lend themselves well to towing something and hoping for equally dispersing the product. I was reading the review on the walk behind sprayer by Morpheus in the a...

Re: Kelp Help / Soil Conditioner Applications
I have enough for several applications and it can probably carry me into summer and fall. If/when it rains in the summer, is it better to apply just before or just after the rain? I am going to try removing the screen and then replace it with the Chapin. Thanks for the recommendation Morpheus and th...

Kelp Help / Soil Conditioner Applications
1) Anyone with 15k+ lawns have suggestions on how to apply these products quickly? The Ortho hose end sprayer I was using didn't seem to suck up the solution very well unless I held the trigger halfway or repeatedly squeezed and released the trigger. I will try again with the screen at the end of th...

Re: Soil Sample after Dimension
The main difference is the depth of the "dark" healthier looking soil and when the subsoil (sand/gravel consistency) starts. I have spots that I can't get the shovel more than 4" in. I'll be ordering the ingredients for the BL soil conditioner shortly to work in all of the organics I hope to get on ...

Soil Sample after Dimension
I have collected a soil sample from my front and backyard. In collecting the soil samples, I noticed quite a difference in the soil I was sampling between both sides of my driveway and between two sections of backyard. I put all of the soil samples from the front together and all of the soil samples...
