Re: The downsides of closely mown turf
Just a thought for you, part of the problem of the grass not being happy is because of you beating it up when you can’t get to it enough. It probably doesn’t seem quite as thick either. I don’t know how much property you have or if you have a sprayer for it, but plant growth regulator might be an an...

Re: 2018 Yard Pics
Wow Abyss. That is some dense turf. What height are you cutting it too and what kind of mower are you using? Frequency? Hey, sorry, haven’t been on here for a while, kind of lost some pizazz when I kept getting told that my grass wasn’t a cool season grass variety and I’ve barely had enough time to...

Re: Initial mowing for Bermuda Grass
Hoping you mowed by now! Bermuda is a “nasty” grass, my advice would of been to set your mower to 1”, make sure you have a bagger on it, and mow away. Once your Bermuda gets to the “maintain” height, I forget what Yukon likes to be at, slowly raise your mower to that height. It’ll knock the crabgras...

Sorry hit submit when I wanted to delete goosegrass amd put Bermuda, I rewrote post: My recommendation would be to try and eradicate the goosegrass for the rest of the year and see where you stand at the end of it. Re: Bermuda lawn taken over by goosegrass
My recommendation would be to try and eradicate the goosegrass for the rest of the year and see where you stand at the end of it. If you are worried about dirt spots and your dogs, look at planting perennial rye toward the end of the growing season. You have revolver, so it will be easy to kill off ...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
What have I done to my yard this year? I poured a little bit of beer on it to celebrate its 2 year anniversary Gotta get some fertilizer down and PGR, but have been busy every time it’s not raining....... https://s33.postimg.cc/izhdm7izv/52_EA54_D4-_C320-4_BAE-_BDBB-0_CEB5_B4951_EE.jpg https://s33.p...

Re: Help on getting something that will verticut!
Thanks, problem with having a full size verticutter is that I only have about 1,000 sq/ft, and that’s a little overkill. Other issue is that I don’t have a ton of storage space, and having something small is a big help in organization.

Re: Am I too late? HELP?!
My advice for the moment would be to go to a big box store, get a bag of fertilizer with crabgrass control, put down at the recommended rate (make sure you don’t cut your grass right before). Either water it in yourself, or look to put it down before it rains. If you have a lot of weeds blanketing y...

Re: Top Dressing Conundrum - Peat Blowing Away
Probably doesn’t matter now, but I figure I’d post it for the future for anyone. You can get that black fabric (garden bed barrier basically), that is attached to stakes, and run it down the yard to block the wind

Help on getting something that will verticut!
So I’ve been trying to find an electric verticutter for the yard and the only one I come across is a Bosch that runs for around $400, and I’d have to figure out a way to convert the plug. Sun Joe makes a scarifier that you can also change out the barrel to de thatcher tines. Would I be able to use t...

Re: When to apply pgr
I know it got down to 4-6 degrees for almost 2 weeks with highs in the lower teens that there definitely wasn’t any snow. It was almost a month that the temps struggled to get above freezing. 2 weeks after the first cold spell, it snowed, and then started to melt, and then had a second cold spell th...

When to apply pgr
So I just scalped my Bermuda, and Im wondering as to when I should look to put PGR down? I was assuming after the grass is actively growing and I get a couple cuts on it?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: San Diego, CA - Just had Platinum TE Paspalum installed
I use a Scotts 20" manual reel mower. It's a small lawn and very manageable...I may consider an electric reel mower for more consistancy. I have not mowed all of 2018 but am about to! Go with the 25v gardenia, I haven’t looked this year if anyone came out with anything different, but my gardenia ha...

Re: 2018 Yard Pics
If it made it through this winter, it’ll make it through anything, had 22 days that it didn’t get above freezing, many of those days around 10-15 degrees, with no snow cover for protection. It looks like it should come back fine, and I’m about 1.5 weeks behind the cold weather grasses

Most likely with the cold spring, it had a chance to really take off before your grass woke up.

Re: I can't believe what I witnessed this morning
Most likely they have a company take care of the irrigation system, and they came and made sure everything was working and set the timers on it. Owners probably don’t wake up until 8am anyway and don’t even know if it works or not, as long as their grass is green

Re: 2018 Yard Pics
Just scalped it on Sunday, haven’t done anything to it yet except spray a little weed killer on Saturday, and threw down some sand for leveling. Second pic is from right after scalp (during actually, had to get the weed sacked out for around the cleanouts). 1st pic is 48 hours later https://s17.post...
