Re: How to Interpret Your Own Soil Test Report
As a (lately absent) member of "ST6", I'm happy to see this discussion taking place and I think this is something long overdue. I'm glad to see others from the site sharing info and joining these discussions. I just hope to avoid a split between members - This shouldn't be Team Billy vs Team ST6. I ...

Re: Primo Maxx
Finally joined the club and sprayed half rate yesterday. Might have been a little too early, but I'm tied up the next 2 weekends and wanted to take advantage of having the day off yesterday.

Re: Primo Maxx
Where are you guys ordering your Primo for the best price? Looking to get into the game this year. I bought Podium (generic Primo) from domyownpestcontrol.com. However, I just realized they also have this which is the same AI and application rate, but about $40 cheaper. Sweet, looks like they carry...

Re: Primo Maxx
So, I applied the generic Embark (?) at half rate to slow down my KBG. About a week and a half later I've noticed a lot of rust popping up and thinning brown spots, like a summer patch, or something. Are fungal issues a result of the PGR? I know some have seemed to think so about 2yrs ago. I'm thin...

Re: Sporadic growth...is it normal?
While you haven't mowed 3 times, the over-wintering process is enough to consider it mature to spot spray some weeds. Pictures of the spots you're talking about would help to determine if anything is wrong or this is just normal spring time behavior. My lawn grows very "patchy" this time of year, bu...

Re: chrismar's 2016 Soil Test
Agreed. Shoot for the 3 apps of lime. TSP applications will be 2 lbs/k, so you'll need similar amounts to SOP.

Re: chrismar's 2016 Soil Test
Well, you need it. Seems it got missed in translation - Morph recommended starter, Andy recommended a balanced fert, both of which have Phosphorus in them. That's one benefit of using the balanced fert, you get both Phosphorus and Potassium (and Nitrogen) in 1 product. Since you're already going the...

Re: chrismar's 2016 Soil Test
Perfect. So the 1.5-2 lbs/k every 90 days is fine. Can go every 60 days if you want and as before, keep away from the lime by 2 weeks. Were you using TSP last year too for Phosphorus?

Re: chrismar's 2016 Soil Test
Balanced fert is fine too. The tough part about a balanced fert is you're also putting down 1 lb/k of synthetic N which isn't always ideal (read: summer months), especially in NJ. Let me know what you think. We could also do balanced fert in the Spring/Fall and SOP/TSP in the summer months. Whatever...

Re: chrismar's 2016 Soil Test
Sorry for the delay. The drop in Calcium is certainly weird. I'm guessing the truth is somewhere between this year and last years test. We'll see where next years test falls. Regardless, the plan is going to be just about the same as last year. Keep up with a good Calcitic lime at 9lbs/k every 90 da...

Re: ReD-BaRoN's soil test - Spring 2016
You definitely need to get back to dropping the Lime/Epsom combo every 90 days. A GOOD Calcitic lime at 9 lbs/k mixed with Epsom salts at 1 lb/k. OM is coming along nicely though, as is the Iron. Keep up the bay state. It appears your Potassium numbers have made some progress. I'd probably slow down...

Re: chrismar's 2016 Soil Test
Were the samples taken from generally the same area? And you took many samples and mixed them together, just like last year? Did you notice any horizons or different colored/looking soil when taking the samples? It's not TOO different from last year, but the "drop" in Calcium catches the eye for sure.

Behind a bit, but dropped Dimension and Mag-I-Cal on my lawn. Need to get by dads tomorrow to drop Dimension and seed some bare areas.

Re: GreenBum's 2015 Fall Reno (Massachusetts)
Yah, 3.3 lbs/k is high. Most people here tend to stay on the lower side at 2 lbs/k (I've seen even as low as 1.5 lbs/k). The KBG will tiller and spread. I'd definitely keep an eye on that for fungus issues. And as noted, waiting for it to get to 3.5" is too long. 2.5" and mow for grass this new. I h...

Re: GreenBum's 2015 Fall Reno (Massachusetts)
"Sprout and pout" and the grass laying down isn't related. That grass looks long at this stage, should cut sooner/shorter if you can.
Man, that grass is dense for being so young. What rate did you seed?

My son was born just 9 hours after posting my last update, soooo yah....Didn't get by to take pictures and probably wont. Dad says areas that were bare soil look GREAT, but some spots where grass bed was thicker have nothing or very little. Hoping it's just thin and things will fill in next Spring, ...

Re: Another year, another last minute reno
I was planning to go by yesterday but between playing and watching football I didn't have time. I'll get by this week to snap some more pictures - From what my dad has said, some spots look great and others are a little slow. So, sounds like a typical renovation. The more I think about my past exper...

Re: GreenBum's 2015 Fall Reno (Massachusetts)
Just wait and see - If you have weeds that look like they need to be hit again ~10 days after your 2nd spray, then spot spray for your 3rd spray. I ended up doing 2 spot sprays after my initial blanket just on areas that showed other grassy weeds. Any broadleaf stuff I wasn't worried about. With all...
