Re: 2022 Soil Test CPascal

Thank you for the thorough response! Your lawn is probably not performing as well as it could, but it's also not undergoing huge struggles at this point. The lawn is definitely not coming to life like it used to though I am guilty of not applying the end of the season urea app after top growth stopp...

2022 Soil Test CPascal

Posting this year's soil test below. Last year due to work and family commitments I was unable to get a soil test but this growing season I am re-dedicating myself to lawn care and would appreciate the excellent advice from this forum. My lawn is about 5,300 square feet and is a classic tri-mix (KBG...

Re: Bad news regarding Bay State Fertilizer

The BayState website says fertilizer is available for scheduled pickup (no walk ins). There also appears to be a online payment portal so you don’t have to pay via check. Has anyone successfully purchased any recently?

Thanks, Andy. Just placed an order of SOP. Do I need to worry about Boron this year?

CPascal 2020 Soil Test

Below is my 2020 soil test from Logan Labs. For the second year in a row I winterized my lawn with urea in the late Fall. This year however I've noticed that my back lawn is slow to wake up (have not mowed it once so far this spring) in contrast to other areas around the house that need to be mowed ...

Re: Dropping Nitrogen Late May Early June in MA

I’m in Mass and when I fertilize in the Spring I always go with BayState fertilizer. Lately, now that I’ve been winterizing in the late fall with urea, I find the grass doesn’t need N in the Spring.

Re: Reno - Seed Superstore Recommendation

I would go with a mix that includes bluegrass. The spreading ability of bluegrass is huge when it comes to repairing damaged areas.

Re: Any specific N requirement for last fall's overseed?

I find that grass seeded in the fall is lethargic the next Spring absent a healthy dose of nitrogen. I would grab a bag(s) of milo and apply at bag rate and see if that helps.

Re: Identify weed

If I were you I would just read up on the "Triangle Approach" to weed control on this site. I bet if you use a herbicide that falls under "level 2", this weed will be a goner. Here's a link to the article https://aroundtheyard.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=161:weed-control-the-qtr...

CPascal 2019 Soil Test

Below are my soil test results for Grass Year 2019. From what I can gather reading soil test interpretations on this site, I think this is pretty decent soil for my neck of the woods. However, compared to last year’s results it does look like some key nutrient values declined namely potassium and ma...

Re: Suggestions for Northern Mix Grass Seed

Preferred Seed has a northern mix called Cornell Classic which I have used on several occasions and I like it a lot. It has a high percentage of KBG (65%) which is hard to find in a Big Box store. Mixes sold at Home Depot etc. will have a lot more Rye. Downside of Cornell Classic is that it will hav...

Re: WTH is with the "Nature's Signs" This Year?

This is definitely an unusual year. Here in Eastern MA we’ve had the most 70+ degree nights ever recorded and the majority of the hottest Septembers ever measured have been since 2000. I would think this trend would have a real impact on “Fall” fertilization and seed down dates.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

My 1 yr old front lawn which is all PRG got hit with some sort of fungus this summer probably grey leaf spot. It hasn’t killed my lawn completely but there are a handful of dead areas and some areas that have thinned out due to this disease. So today I scalped the lawn, raked out the dead matter, se...
