Re: Folks with Fescue - do you overseed even if grass survives Summer?

Thanks for the feedback Northeast. I've got TTTF here in central VA, one day I may try to bring in some KBG to mix with it. I searched the forum and it seems like this question comes up frequently and everyone one has their 2 cents, and the answer depends on each scenario. I've decided not to aerate...

Re: Folks with Fescue - do you overseed even if grass survives Summer?

Gonna try it again...for those that have a thick, green lawn heading into Fall... - do you aerate? Spray or core? - if not, how do you overseed? I'm in uncharted territory - normally I'm dealing with a dried, burnt up, fungus-infested lawn - but this year I kept up with my irrigation and fungicide a...

Re: Folks with Fescue - do you overseed even if grass survives Summer?

Thanks for the response. I've read some arguments for overseeding each year and others against it. I'd be curious to hear how some of the experienced members of this forum deal with Fall. Is it just spot seeding with peat moss and starter? Or spray aeration and overseeding or core aeration and overs...

Re: Thoughts on 2020 Summer Sesaon Results

For myself, I did my best job ever irrigating through the very dry July (Rachio said 60 hrs of watering for ~20K sq ft, wallet felt it!) AND putting down fungicide starting around Memorial Day every 4-5 weeks. As a result, lawn looks better than every heading into the Fall. When I had stress in the ...

Folks with Fescue - do you overseed even if grass survives Summer?

Hey grassheads :) We recently moved to a new house this Spring and the lawn was professionally maintained. I did a good job (for the first time ever) of staying up on watering AND applying fungicide/weed killer, and the result is the lawn looks great heading into Fall here in Central VA. Historicall...

Re: Anyone else drop the heritage/DiseaseEX/Azoxystrobin?

I've put up my best battle ever against fungus this year, and my yard is doing well thus far. Not ready to claim victory just yet, but in a few weeks I should be out in the clear. In mid to late May, I did a blanket spray of Armada 50 WDG (preventative rate) and then 10 days later, followed it up wi...

Re: Brown Patch Treatment Success

Jason - can you provide the link to which generic 14.3% Propiconizole product you bought off Amazon? I've been battling some brown patch since mid-May. I won the first round after applying a blanket spray of Armada 50 WDG and a week later spot spraying trouble areas. I put Milo down at half rate a w...

Re: When do you start preventive fungicide regime?

This past weekend would have been perfect here in Central VA, but I missed it as I was out of town. Now it looks like we will have a chance of rain every day over the next 7-10 days. I have 2/3 bottle of Armada 50 left, and am going to try to spread that into 2 apps to hold me over summer for my ~12...

Re: Late May/Early June Fert App

Thanks Rockin. We are in Midlo as well. Our regimen is very similar except for the spring fert app. I put a winterizer down in early December, which should have fed my lawn through spring according to what I've read. Sounds like I need to put an app down ASAP of ~1 lb of fert. Your yard looks great ...

Late May/Early June Fert App

Hey grassheads - I hope everyone is having a great year so far. I haven't been on this site too much this year as my yard is doing great thanks to the help I've gotten here over the past 4-5 years. Last year, I applied a fert app around Memorial Day, ~1 lb nitrogen/k and it was followed by rainy, hu...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

Sorry to beat a dead horse here...my last cut 10 days ago got very little grass off the top, so its safe to say my grass has stopped growing here in Central VA. Reading Andy's instructions, I have about a 3 week window when top growth stops to apply winterizer. Does it matter if we get extremely col...

Re: Planning New Irrigation - Completed

Rachio is really slick. Its nice to have something on my phone so that I can track the irrigation. I also have it linked to a PWS within a mile of me. Lots to learn, but looks like lots of cool features. Might have to get out there with catch cups to help make sure I have the right nozzles and the i...

Re: Planning New Irrigation - Completed

My system was completed Monday and I am excited to use my Rachio controller! Total costs $4,100, 8 zones, 28 Hunter PGP Rotor heads (red #5 nozzles), 2 misters and 1 mulch bed set-up with drip irrigation. He also installed an extra pipe for future expansion if needed. Overall very impressed and the ...

Re: Also planning new irrigation

Wow. Gorgeous property. I have to agree, you are probably paying a premium because your property looks like you can afford it :) I also am just worried about covering the lawn areas. When the irrigation comes out for final plans tomorrow, I'm going to ask how much it would cost for drip irrigation i...

Re: Planning New Irrigation

Okay, it sounds like if installed properly, it shouldn't be a problem to have them in an area where they may be driven over a very infrequently. Hopefully with an extra nice lawn, that would deter people from parking in the grass anyway! Thanks!

Re: Planning New Irrigation

Great, thanks for the feedback! I've started reading the irrigation tutorials, but theres a lot left to read there. Thanks Michael wise. Ken-n-Nancy, I am having the contractor come out again for a 'final' plan to show the number of heads, locations and models of each. I'll report back once I get th...

Planning New Irrigation - Completed

After 6 years in my home and each season making progress on lawn renovations (expanding grass areas, failed bermuda experiment, multiple apps of RU, soil amendments), I'm finally biting the bullet on irrigation. I've had success with my previous renovations, but every year mid-summar I can never dev...

Re: Fescue to Bermuda - 2015 Soil Test

Its been awhile since an update. Grass was looking excellent until the past 2 weeks. We had the rainiest May in over a century, and very mild temps for most of it. Which was great until I put my late May app of Dimension & Allectus down and ~1 lb of nitrogen down per 1k. I got it down right before 2...
