Re: Herbicide Shelf Life

When you say it gets cold, does it get below freezing in there? It can get cold in PA but some garages have enough insulation and residual warmth to keep from freezing.

Re: Roller?

I've rolled lawns with everything from pull behind water filled roller to a full size rented asphalt vibratory roller. All them them give temporary results and the next season after a freeze and thaw cycle things are back where they started.

Re: Rose question

Do they continue to grow (the footprint) every year or does the overall bush stay a certain size after all those years?

Re: Scotts question

I put the triple action down this morning. He didn't have many weeds so I am more concerned about the Fert and Pre M at this point. We are supposed to get some rain tomorrow evening. Depending on how things looks in a month or two I will hit it with 2 4 D then. I know the Pre M in this stuff doesn't...

Re: 2024: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today (Cool Season)

Supposed to get some rain this coming Tuesday so I started putting my prodiamine down. It started to get too window so I stopped spraying. Still have about 2 acres to spray. Hopefully the wind dies down some in the next day or so. Not sure if it is too early, too late, or about right but since I tre...

Re: Weeping willow question

I had an old farmer tell me one time that staking trees makes them weak. He said being blown around when they are young makes them harder and hardier. He said it’s better to buy a smaller treee that isn’t tall enough to need stakes and sacrifice a year or two of height for a tree that is stronger in...

Re: Rose question

Might look into the knockouts. With my busy schedule a little more hands off is better for me.

Re: Weeping willow question

Sounds good. I left that one because (and I may have misread) your original response said you "might" cut the one off at 1:00 pm or maybe wait until next year. I did cut that one off and the one remaining was even higher then the one you said it might consider. Either way hopefully it will perk up. ...

Rose question

My grandmother (named Rose) passed away at the age of 97 recently. Over the winter I thought about some type of tribute and thought about some type of roses. I know zero about them. I have a spot up against my house in the front and thought about some type of trellis with some type of climbing rose ...

Scotts question

My elderly father decided to stop paying the lawn care service and have some family (including me) help with is lawn care. I am fine with that and told him I would take care of it. I was planning to put pre m down and some fert pretty soon. I went over today to measure his yard and he told me he alr...

Re: Weeping willow question

Here is what I ended up with. Looks a lot better already, funny how cutting a bunch of the limbs from a tree can make it look more like a tree.... Not the best pic, I snapped it from the driveway.

Weeping willow question

I have a weeping willow that was planted about 3 years ago. My neighbor planted one about the same time and his is doing a lot better then mine. He looked at mine and recommended I prune a lot of the branches of as they are near the ground. I don't know much about planting these trees but he said th...

Re: Dropping fert w/o rain

I have a large yard I treat without irrigation. My practice is to wait until soil temps get to around 50 degrees. Then I wait until the next forecasted rain. I use straight urea, and depending on what you are actually putting down will dictate how much you’ll lose by it sitting in the ground without...

Re: Plant Now?

I’ve always tried to get mine up and mowed at least one time (preferably twice) before the first frost. I would hold off personally.

Re: Do I need to wait to plant trees?

Tried finding an answer to this question on line and couldn't come up with anything. Everything I found talked about planting grass after applying. My assumption is that most of the herbicde is absorbed through the leaves which the new trees were not exposed to. It's been 24 hours since I sprayed th...

Do I need to wait to plant trees?

I brought home a couple maple trees yesterday that are about 4 foot tall I plan on planting. Due to the way things worked with the weather I ended up spraying my yard with Triplet sf yesterday as well. Will this application have any impact on me planting the two small maple trees? My gut tells me it...

Re: Height of cut recommendations

I too keep mine around 4-4.5 inches all year. This time of year I start dropping it a little each month to gradually get it lower before the snow flies. In Indiana some years I’m done mowing by November some years it’s still growing in December.

Small trees and herbicides

I am sure it varies by variety, but is there an age or size where you consider a small tree safe from the effects of 24D and other similar weed killers? I have several poplar/tulip, oak, and weeping willow trees that are only a couple years old and 2-4 foot tall. I used wrap or cover them when I use...
