Re: Class of 2017 Renovations: Roll Call !!!!
Count me in! I've got a new construction home with about 35-40k sq ft of lawn to install. Of course this all hinges on finding someone with a bulldozer to grade out the remaining 25k sq ft. I've been successful in finding an irrigation and landscaping contractor but all of the excavators are so busy...

Re: KBG Recommendations for Southeast Michigan
Thanks guys. Here is what confuses me about the NTEP.....none of the recommended cultivars, with the exception of Award, are listed on the results for Michigan State. So am I missing something or just looking in the wrong spot? My recommendation is a blend(2/2/1) of Award/Blueberry/Bewitched. Intere...

KBG Recommendations for Southeast Michigan
Yes I know it is February in Michigan. But recent record setting temperatures of 60 degrees got me thinking about lawn stuff. I will be moving into a new construction home this summer, and want to be ready to go for a fall seed-down date. I am 35 miles directly east of Lansing, MI (site of Michigan ...

Re: Opinions on bobcat mowers?
You are going to enjoy it. A couple tips: Take it slow the first few times you use it and try to start off in an area that is free of obstacles. Belt drives don't reverse well (if at all) but you will learn how to cut to always be moving forward. It can be a bit of a paradigm shift but it will soon ...

Hey HLG, I'm curious as to why you added the ammonium sulfate? Wouldn't you be worried about all that nitrogen burning the grass in hot weather and potentially affecting the uptake of the glyphosate?

Re: Put down new sod... Seams turning brown?
I don't think 2x a day watering is good enough for new sod. I remember watering my new sod 6x a day at the very beginning (frequent and shallow) to keep the sod from drying out.

Re: Fusebox Backyard Renovation/New Establishment - Fall 201
Wouldn't the corner issue be a moot point with any rotator with a properly sized GPM nozzle? ie a 1 GPM nozzle in the quarter circle rotor and a 4 GPM nozzle in the full circle rotor.

Re: Hole-y Knockout Rose Bush
I've got a few knockout roses in my backyard. They always look this exact same way, but it never seems to cause any problems. This spring I cut them back to the ground. I have always heavily trimmed them in the early spring, but this year I went full boat and took them all the way down. I was really...

Very cool videos.
When you stop to think about it, it is awe inspiring the technological advances in the past 100 years. To put 1 million pounds in the air is just insane when you think about all of the engineering and manufacturing behind it.

Yes it was for sure softened water. I thought about using non softened water but didn't want to introduce another variable.
I will alter the mix procedure next time.

Re: Did I get the correct supplies to make FAS?
My order was: 1 gallon Softened cold water 4 oz ferrous sulfate Mix with paint stir stick Noticed rust color (last time was greenish) Added 3.4 oz ammonium sulfate Poured into 1 gallon pump sprayer, applied to my 800 SF test area. Pretty sure I forgot the ferrous sulfate last time as i saw no rust c...

Re: New Thermapen Mk4
...One thing I am not crazy about with the Thermopop is the small size. It can be very difficult to use over a hot grill. I wonder if the Thermapen is longer? http://s33.postimg.cc/a2x89q157/image.jpg [ Post made via iPhone ] http://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/images/mobile/iPhone.png Haha....thanks ...

Re: Did I get the correct supplies to make FAS?
So I made a second attempt at FAS. This time I certainly got the rust color. Here is a picture of my mix bucket: http://s31.postimg.cc/h132gcs2f/20160610_191848.jpg And here is a picture of the leftovers in my sprayer: http://s31.postimg.cc/rs4h799uf/20160610_195158.jpg This was at 4 Oz Ferrous Sulf...

Re: New Thermapen Mk4
I recently bought the Thermopop. I really wanted the Thermapen MK4 but in the end just bring myself to spend that much more. Maybe someday. I am liking the Thermopop. My first experience with them and it has been really helpful in cooking meats to the proper doneness on the grill. I have taken thing...

It will be on a well. And yes, first order of business will be to check the GPM output. The county records are available online, but I'm not exactly sure how to interpret the documents. Plus it seems like this needs to be independently verified at the tap in location anyways. Here is an example of t...

Re: DIY Sprinkler System over 3/4 Acre
Thanks again for all the advice and words of wisdom. It'll be a big project but I like the idea of doing it myself. Definitely leaning towards the Vibratory plow. Its going to be a boat load of pipe and the thought of having to backfill that much open trench doesn't sound like much fun. Will still h...

Re: New Forum Added for "Lawn Care Basics 101"
I think this new forum is an interesting experiment. Might I make one minor suggestion? Make the caveat of only "box store solutions" more visible by making a note into board description on the main board index page. Personally I think that sets the tone of this particular forum and makes it feel mo...

Cool good information, thanks LR! I have seen where plenty of duct tape is recommended to keep the pipe ends closed and dirt free. Ditch Witch of Michigan rents the Ditch Witch 410sx vibratory plow for $450 including trench attachment, trailer, damage waiver and sales tax. I will have to balance tha...

Re: DIY Sprinkler System over 3/4 Acre
Thanks for the info guys. This is looking like it will be a Spring 2017 project, so I will have plenty of time to research, learn, and design. I'm surprised to see the recommendation for a 1.5" main line. That seems HUGE! But the friction loss on 1.5" pipe is about 85% less than a 1" pipe, so I can ...
