Re: New to mowing warm season grasses
By the look and sound of it you've got some type of Zoysia not Bermuda, but it doesn't really make much difference in this case. My advice is to not get hung up on specific numbers you find online, you'll just have to try different things and see what works best in the real world for what you're doi...

Re: Warm grass options in transition zone
Never had a warm season grass, what kind of upkeep are you talking about? Thx and thanks for the bentgrass tip. I guess it''s mainly the mowing. If you don't stay on top of it and don't keep it mowed at least once a week you're in for an ugly lawn for a while. In many cases you'll be mowing 2 or 3 ...

Re: Warm grass options in transition zone
Not so much a treatise, but a white paper is fine. Just kidding. So there's no favorites? If you just want a shorter grass, you could try creeping bentgrass which is still cool season that you can seed but it grows similarly to grasses like Bermuda. I'm pretty burnt out on keeping up my lawn this y...

Looks like a yard down the street has the same thing going on. I'm seeing a lot of lawns in my neighborhood hit by disease this summer too. Happens every few years.

Re: Depressed and Ready to give up. Please help.
Why did you choose centipede over bermuda or St Augustine? What is your final watering plan? Did you fertilize any of these sod installations? If I were sodding a big new piece of property I probably wouldn't even consider SA because it's more expensive to begin with and you only get about 4/5 the ...

Re: Newbie Qs/ Yard in Peril
Before you do anything else I would have soil samples tested, because I would put money on the possibility that the pH is really low and acidic, among other likely problems. I had trouble growing Bermuda on my property too until soil testing revealed the problems and I started putting down lime on a...

Put down pre-em and keep killing the crabgrass. You don't need to wait till next year to do that.

So the only problem now is weeds? We all have to deal with weeds, it's not the end of the world. How bad could it be? Grab some Celsius or whatever the new hotness in primo herbicides is and get it under control.

Re: Riviera Bermuda
100% weeds. This is the main reason why seeding grass in the south is so difficult, because when it's finally hot enough for the seed to grow, you're usually going to have an explosion of crabgrass and other weeds as well.

Re: New Bermuda sod - Random thick blades
Can't tell much on account of the pics being the size of a postage stamp, but in the first pic it looks like you might have orchardgrass or some other grassy weed that hitched a ride in the sod. Let a small patch of it grow uncut for a while to see what it turns into.

Re: I have drank the coolaid
I'll add a few big things if they haven't been mentioned yet. Your Bermuda was grown on a sod farm. This is different from the Bermuda grass you get in bags of seed from garden centers. In your case there's no need or reason to ever use seed. In most cases, southern/warm season grass problems aren't...

Re: St. Augustine - Brown Spots!!!
Classic brown patch disease. Off the shelf fungicides from big box stores or garden centers should take care of it.

This is what SA typically looks like. Whatever you have there looks like very nice grass but I'm not sure what it is.

Re: Problems with St. Augustine Grass - Brown spot/Large patch?
You don't have St. Augustine but you do have a fungus problem. What you should do is take your case over to the cool season grass dept and see if they know anything.

Re: Coastal Georgia Centipede Lawn
I wouldn't worry about over-watering the lawn. It's pretty unlikely unless the irrigation is running 24/7. Ideally you want 1" of water per week in a single long watering, rather than multiple short waterings now that the sod is established. You will have to do some testing and adjusting to figure o...

A cheaper, simpler, but slower alternative would be to have plugs shipped in the mail. I've used Hancock Farm & Seed in central FL for this in the past and they're a good company.
