Re: classic wetshaving

No, electric for me. But I think I understand the enjoyment. I think it's the enjoyment of a honed and stropped edge doing it's work. I get that from working with hand planes and chisels; learning to sharpen is essential to everything. [ Post made via Android ] http://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/image...

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?

Mowed and trimmed last night after work and its been raining all morning. Got a break in the rain so I dropped Dimension and a half- app of Milorganite. If the weather cooperates tomorrow I'll apply Companion and maybe some SBM or Alfalfa. And finish putting up the last two fence panels in the back....

Re: Herbicide Measuring device

I use cheapie plastic measuring spoons and convert to teaspoons or tablespoons. I've saved the graduated caps from a few Ortho bottles and use those too.

Re: Looking for an idiot proof backpack sprayer

Those look pretty good, but I had a bit of sticker shock once I inquired. I'm also leery of walking through the applied material while pushing it, if that is actually how it works. If that's how it works, does it matter? Why not an Earthway S15? Can't get much simpler than that for broadcast applica...

Re: Looking for an idiot proof backpack sprayer

I've been really happy with my Chapin 62000, I like the reversible pump handle and the back padding and straps. I've never had it leak on my while wearing it, I've probably used it a dozen times now. It's a piston design, not a diaphragm, for what that's worth. I started as a total beginner ( and I ...

Re: Removing oil from lawn

I wonder if shampoo would help break down the oil?

I've viewed a few threads about cleaning oil from turf and the common wisdom is to dig it up. Someone else mentioned having those responsible for the contamination take care of it, and I think that's what I'd do, too.

Applied Companion, then washed it down with BLSC/KH.

Currently pondering edging and glyphosate for the volunteer crap that coming up in the sidewalk cracks. And enjoying my deck and being lazy.

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?

Mowed and trimmed at 3" after work yesterday, and applied TKO Phosphites and Sumagreen Turf this morning. Sharpened Honda HRX lawnmower blades, changed the air filter, cleaned and prepped the pre-filter, changed the oil, and blew off the crud and wiped it down all over. Also installed a new blade in...

Re: So long Scotts!

Nice, it is a great feeling to replace terrible equipment and tools with quality pieces that will last as long as they are taken care of and properly used. Last year I replaced quite a few items with the intention of not spending any money this year, and now it's this year, and.... NO TOYS :( I didn...

Re: Do you sharpen your lawn mower blades (yourself)?

I'm glad that's not happening to me. Each time I put up my mower I clean the deck and check the blade, and haven't seen that happening. The advice in that video is probably good advice for a certain type of customer. Preparing that kind of edge might be a way to reduce the number of times per season...

Re: Do you sharpen your lawn mower blades (yourself)?

I sharpen freehand Kev. The Lee Valley jig is really nice, but makes it hard to accomplish my goal in sharpening, which is frequent light touchups and razor sharpness at all times. The additional time it takes to set up the jig interrupts my process and makes me less likely to hone. I usually go dir...

Re: Do you sharpen your lawn mower blades (yourself)?

Yup, hand file here too, it only takes a couple of minutes, there's no chance of overheating the steel, and it's relaxing. I make furniture as a hobby and use all kinds of hand tools ( chisels, gouges, planes, spokeshaves, etc. ) and know how to sharpen things properly. I also rehab and hand sharpen...

Re: Hound Dog Coring Aerator HDP35 Review

I have a Step 'N Tilt, the lever action actually works, and it is well-built enough not to feel flimsy. If the soil is too moist it pulls up divots instead of cores; if the soil is too dry it won't drive deep enough to core. I've tried it with four coring tines and with two, I have never been able t...

Dimension 2EW question

I am going to spray Dimension 2EW tomorrow, and would like to know what the best practice is - with surfactant, or without? It makes sense to me to not use surfactant, as I want the pre-emergent in the soil. But I realize there is a post-emeregent action to Dimension as well. I am a couple of weeks ...

I will un-winterize mine soon, I can't wait, I love using it. It has plenty of power and like others have said it gives a great cut and is a great mulcher.
