Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
Here's an update on my Rhodo. It's not looking so great and I'm hoping it's just because the yellow parts of the leaves went brown (and not that it's getting worse). Here are some photos. Sorry for the poor light (raining & cloudy these days and I don't know how to adjust for that on my camera): htt...

Re: New BL Support Group
I'm afraid mine's pretty bad too -- although the "bad" I'm talking about is poa annua. I see about 10 patches in a small ~500sf area that I have to take out somehow once the rains stop. Not sure what I'm going to do, since I can't find any round up (municipality banned lawn chem's last year and stor...

Re: Philips AmbientLED 8 Watt Bulb
I'm very impressed you all have moved away from incandescents. We're just starting that here, as our provincial gov't has now banned the import of 60-100W incand. bulbs. Many people here are resisting -- they say that no-one is going to recycle the CFLs (they'll just end up in the landfill due to la...

Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
Iron and Manganese are antagonistic. Your Iron in the tissue sample was fine. More Iron will make the Manganese LESS effective without improving the plant's situation. Just thinking forward to dropping spring organics. I bought Milorganite in the fall when it was really cheap -- should I not use it...

Snowdrops
Is it just me, or do snowdrops make everyone think spring is just around the corner? Mine are 3" high (just noticed them today). It was nice to see them before we get our estimated 20cm of snow this week.
Anyone else enjoying their snowdrops yet?

Well, then, I guess I'm right on time! I just looked at the timing of the first post of the thread and thought I had been asleep at the switch. Hope you had a great one.MorpheusPA wrote:Not belated; my birthday is today!

Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
Thanks, gentlemen. I was worried about the brown buds, because there are areas on the plant where the buds are still green. And my other rhodos have green buds still. They only turned brown after the freeze, but perhaps it has to do with the previous problems. I'll try to be patient (:

Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
Hey all, I'm back. Sorry to make you refresh your memory on this topic but a few questions: - how often can I put down garden sulphur? Or, is this a case where I need to apply once - wait - retest soil? I put it down in early/mid October. It takes a while to work, right? I think I might lose the shr...

Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
Thanks for all the info. And I'll be careful of the driveway! (:
Any ideas how long this might take to work? Does it depend on microbes to break it down first? (i.e. will it take longer in the winter than warmer weather?)

Re: Aquarium & fish information?
Thanks so much, all. I have a lot to research now. Good point, Andy, about challenging your experience level...I would probably get quickly bored with more Neons and Cory's (although I love the latter; those, and the plecostomuses...plecostomi ???? I'll probably have to get another of those at some ...

Aquarium & fish information?
I'm toying with the idea of setting up a freshwater aquarium again (had one for years back in the day), but I really need to read up on everything, refamiliarize myself with it all, and especially learn about all the different equipment that is out there now. I'm sure heaters and filters have change...

Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
What a gong show -- it took a few weeks for my copper sulphate and manganese sulphate to make it through Customs, but it finally arrived today. Makes me wish I had bit the bullet and paid the $40/year for a US post office box in Blaine, Washington, but I don't have a Nexus pass and really hate waiti...

Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
Thanks, Andy. The monohydrates I saw said they were ~99% Mn, so I just wondered if they would be more effective. I'll probably go with the ebay 32% version and let you know once I get it.

Re: Chlorosis in Rhododendron
I'm having a hard time getting the Mn and Copper Sulphate locally. It's on backorder at the main supplier (who most of the garden centres use), so I'm looking farther afield. If I get a Manganese Sulfate that states 32% Mn, is this ok? Or do I need to buy Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate? The only Mono...

Please disregard my last post re Tri-basic copper sulphate -- I decided to go with the Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate -- just waiting for it to arrive.
