Re: On the Margins...

I top dress fairly heavily with peat moss around the cub/driveway each year - figure having a higher OM% there could/should help even out the heat/drought stress a little so that maybe eventually my margins will have similar watering needs to areas 2-5 feet into the yard... maybe someday. Also I mak...

With your super calcium soil in the Dallas area did you contact Andy and/or submit your test as a AA w/cations test ?? Re: Lawn drainage issues.

Possibly you could pour a lot of ice down the hole...fill with cold water (repeat) in the summer (or very hot water in the cool season).... then a while later check with a IR camera(preferred) or IR temperature gun. Might work to show the area it drains or the blockage, if shallow enough or you keep...

Re: What is the order to fix your yard?

Read up on the 'Reno forum' for general steps and work involved. (soil testing?, roundup, fallow, seeding, weed prevention, fertilizers, top cover, watering light/frequent, whiskey, etc) I think your thought on the order is smart. One thing I would consider if you have any grass growing... is seeing...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

Mirak - if it has been two weeks since you mowed....sounds done to me. get out the mower and mow.... can you tell if grass is being cut? are clippings falling on your driveway, walkway, curb? Have a bagger, anything in it? However...southern Kansas.... done already...? seems awfully early, 500+ mile...

Re: Putting out Urea before Rain Today - Thoughts?

I don't know - usually works out for me to do 1 bag (36#) to 6lbs of Urea (for yard sections), very high concentration of Milo. Fills my hopper - covers front or back yard. So a 6:1 ratio - but really any ratio works. Even a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio would help in spreading I would think. With my low Iron hi...

Re: Put a Fork In It (and Then Grade It)

B Lawn was pretty great - then went on a 2wk trip to UK - neighbor cut grass a little short for me - coincided with a dry period and not enough watering. Lawn got a bit toasted in spots - then came the moles - a lot of areas just barely recovered come fall. Started mowing shorter and there was even ...

Re: Last N App in Minneapolis

Typical hard frosts are in October in central MN - sprinkler guys seem like if you call to setup early they just do it in Sept-Oct... bit colder sooner up in MN versus Detroit area I would think, quite a bit north and no lake effect(?). If you were to call around in November - they would probably co...

Re: Putting out Urea before Rain Today - Thoughts?

Onto your spreader question - If it is your first time using Urea in that spreader - set it to the lowest setting that the stuff comes out of it. Then it will allow for multiple passes and an even application. Also measure out how much you need for a certain area...do passes until used up (typically...

Re: Last N App in Minneapolis

I did the 17th as well - yard has been snow covered since, on the NW side of town. Last nights rain took care of most of the snow Ground was froze pretty solid however - the slow steady rain and snow melt didn't soak in - fire pit was filled with water  . Likely the frost came out of the grou...

Re: Snow mold prevention

If you are talking about Serenade/Companion/Actinovate or similar probiotics - then yes, hypotheticaly late in the season if you can help colonize the grass/thatch etc with benneficial funk - it is maybe more likely to prevent nasties. use early...use often If you are referring to some University ar...

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?

last night is mowed (happy with growth stoppage) - changed oil - winterized with 75% urea and 25% milo this morning watching it get rained in nicely before winter arrives (in an hour or two, LOL), temperature has dropped to 36 already. Snow later shortly...and highs/lows of 34/20 for the next many d...

Re: Taking soil samples - question

Nope - you only want the soil as outlined in the Sticky/FAQ on Soil Testing and sending to the right testing lab.

Soil Test Sticky: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9339

You only want the soil in the 3" to 4" band and submit to Logan Labs.

Re: Green View Lawn Food, 46-0-0, or Milorganite

Using some milorganite mixed with the Green View will help in applying more evenly - reducing chances of screw up with applying such a potent fertilizer. As well as provide some slow release iron/N and organic mater for over winter/early spring. And maybe in my dreams. :blackeye: ..help repel field ...

my grass is down to minimal/no growth in MN - at 8 day mow intervals past couple mows with minimal trimming - snow on the way and some hard freezes... bombs away for me today I bet, my usual blend of urea and Milo going to give the yard a trim this afternoon before hand, looks greener (Fresh growth?...

Re: Why does Milorganite recommend a Thanksgiving application?

Well being that 40% is fast release - water soluable - it's by no means 'just slow release'....the remainder is biosolids, that will continue to breakdown over the late fall/winter... or not, remaining in the thatch layer to be broken down in the spring. (as described on their site). The timing... w...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Applications - A New Model

Does anyone have a suggestion for a product that will work for this application method? i.e. Scotts, Vigoro, Lesco etc. Thanks Milorganite/Baystate would be a fairly solid option, it is the only near 50/50 fertilizer I have ever seeen at a 'store'. Milorganite 40%fast/60%slow that I know of at a 'r...
