Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

What’s everyone paying for urea this year? Just went and picked up two 50lb bags, one for me and one for my neighbor. $20 a bag. I didn’t buy any last year because we were selling our old house and moving into our new one, but the year before I think I paid around $14/bag. While $20 still isn’t “exp...

Re: Scott’s ProVista KBG

Yeah I’m not using it. I saw it and it piqued my interest. I’m assuming Scott’s has a “professional line” of products that may be better quality, but I’ve never really been impressed with their seed. I’d much rather get sod-quality stuff. However, let’s say you want to renovate a few years down the ...

Scott’s ProVista KBG

Anyone know anything about this seed? First I’ve heard of it, but apparently it’s a glyphosate tolerant KBG. Seems like a double edged sword?

Re: Water Bubbling Out

I agree with Morpheus. You’ve got a leak in the line that runs from the valve to Zone 7. It only leaks when you turn on Zone 7 because unlike a main line, there’s no water running in that specific pipe until the zone is turned on. Whether you do it yourself or call someone it has to be dug up either...

Re: Push Spreader Recommendations

I have the Earthway 2170 and love it. No matter which brand you get, two things that I consider mandatory are tall, narrow tires and a metal pushrod to open the hopper. Tall tires don’t sink in every little hole/divot in your lawn, and narrow tires have less resistance to push than wider tires. As f...

Re: Stack316 half backyard renovation 2021

Looking good! What was the issue with last year’s seed? I’m pretty SSSure(hint?) I know who you’re referring to, but I bought from them for my last renovation and was pleased, so I bought more this year for my new house. Still fallowing here, so I haven’t got it down yet, but now you have me a bit w...

Re: Post-Mortem? Chinch Bugs?

I agree with TT in that we can’t really tell, but I will say it looks VERY similar to chinch bug damage I had a few years ago at my old house, and the timing seems about right. One way to confirm it’s chinch bugs is to take a coffee can or something similar, cut the bottom out and then drive it part...

Re: Hydrawise Triggers?

Did you get this dialed in? Any feedback? We just moved and I’m getting a system installed next week and I went with the Hydrawise. I really wanted the Sprinkl controller with wireless soil moisture sensors to make everything fully autonomous, but I emailed them and they’re releasing a new model tha...

Re: What Blends/Cultivars Do You Recommend for Dense Shade?

My lawn is elite KBG, and I have a deep shade area where I tried to grow Bewitched since it’s shade tolerant. I babied it for a few years, it would thin out and I would overseed more Bewitched thinking it would eventually “take” but it never did. I threw in the towel and gave up on trying to get KBG...

Anyone heard of it? Seems to be a fairly new controller. Seems like your usual smart controller that will delay irrigation based on forecast from local weather stations like the Rachio, but unlike Rachio you can attach your own on-site rain sensor to be used in conjunction with local PWSs, as oppose...

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be chinch bugs. Find something with bifenthrin in it. I use RoundUp Bug Destroyer around mid June and haven’t had a problem since. Keep in mind your application timing may be different than mine.

Scott's DiseaseEx on sale for $14.24. Not their best deal, I bought some for $11.99 on Amazon a while back thanks to a tip from TimmyG. $14.24 is still a great price, though.

Re: Problems with new sod Fescue

What do the grass blades near the brown spots look like? I’m asking because it could possibly be a disease of some sort, but I had a similar issue and it turned out to be chinch bugs. Summer is the season for them. Can we get some more pics close up, and maybe of the blades near the damaged areas?

Re: Calculating Amount of Time to Put Down 1"

That could be about right, depending on how your zones are laid out and how many heads you have per zone. I have an area that's 5500 sqft, 3 zones with 4 heads per zone, so 12 heads total. Each zone runs for approx 2hrs, so in total, that's about 6hrs to put 1" on that particular 5,500 sqft area. Id...

I did it for about 4 months then fell off the wagon while on vacation, and struggled to get back on it. It’s a bit difficult when you’re the only one in the house doing it. I’m 6’1” and was 180lb, so my goal wasn’t to lose weight, just read about the increased energy and figured more energy is alway...

Re: What's happening to my blade tips

Hit up Harbor Freight for a torque wrench. They have a $20 one and a $90 one. I went with the $20 one and it does just fine. I’m guessing it probably isn’t as accurate or maybe lacks some features, but it’s good enough for what I need.
