Re: Need Help Amending Sandy Soil
I haven't been on this forum for years but do get a chuckle when I visit. As someone who maintains a lawn in Western Washington, I would be cautious to believe everything you read on the internet, especially when the poster doesn't show pictures of their own results. The previous post for example, n...

Re: A "Fine" Partial front yard reno
Looking great! I just recently came back from vacation camping and the site had a golf course and they had bentgrass on the green. I've never seen bentgrass before, I don't play golf and this was the first time I've been to a golf course (at least in North America). I don't know if it was a good cu...

Re: A "Fine" Partial front yard reno
Thank you. We have three potted maples on the patio and leave them out over the winter without issue. Seattle winters are relatively mild.

Thanks Pete1313. It is at 3/4 inch based on the highly scientific ruler in the grass measuring method.

Re: Guide to creating a cool season blend
Pretty broad brush. FF in my geo grows very well, is my preferred and dominant species and does great even during the long, warm to hot summer days..Fine fescues are only recommended for shade in the lower 48, as their delicate blades are vulnerable to the strength of the full summer sun.

Re: Also planning new irrigation - Completed
Exceptional weekend in Seattle with abnormally warm weather making it difficult to keep two zones damp after a spring overseed. Decades of moving hoses and sprinklers is not missed. The timer works great and if the lawn over my sand filter and one other area look to be getting too dry for the seedli...

Re: Question on aeration vs verticut vs dethatching
From a reply in 2014: Many use terms such as scarifier, de-thatcher, verticutter, and sometimes even groomer interchangeably but they are all intended for different tasks. Scarifier is not a commonly used term in the USA and of the two is typically closer to a de-thatcher. I have a scarifier cartrid...

Re: Where have all the good sprinklers gone?
Now that I finally have a sprinkler system I have a pile of hoses and sprinklers stacked by the side of my house but I got a lot of experience with portables before getting irrigation installed.. If you are looking at portable sprinklers, I was happy with the Rain Bird 25P JDAC Brass Impact Sprinkle...

Glad you enjoy your irrigatio...

Re: Planning New Irrigation - Completed
Glad you enjoy your irrigation and all went well. Did you get the Rachio controller? If not, what do you have and how do you like it? I assume the question is intended for me since bentleyvt confirmed above he is using the Rachio Controller. I'll answer more in my "also" thread to keep bentlevt's o...

Re: Planning New Irrigation - Completed
Your crew beat mine by a day. Looks like we both found great Irrigation companies to do the work. My crew left their sod cutters and trench diggers in the trailer and did everything by hand to protect my wife's garden. Now we have more time to smoke cigars, drink wine and watch grass grow. Enjoy.

Re: Also planning new irrigation - Completed
My system is done and my bank account is empty but it was well past time after over 22 years in my house. One of the hardest working crews I have witnessed. Gentlemen all that took pride in their work and made every effort to leave everything just the way they found it and for the most part succeede...

Yes, they think there will be 16 zones with separate heads for the beds and lawn.LoneRanger wrote:Are there separate zones and heads for the turf, along with zones and heads for the beds?

Re: Also planning new irrigation
Day two of installation still in process. A really good group of hard working guys; they start arriving around 6:30 AM and work until 8:00 or so. 4 trucks/men on day one, two most of today with a third showing up around 3:30. Hard to know but two or three more days at least. It is causing some damag...

Re: How to get rid of Moles?
My approach is similar to GeorgiaDad but I don’t bother with blocking the tunnel entry and exit before playing whack-a-mole. Since they tend to be most active early in the morning, I just make my coffee, wander out near the activity and wait to see the dirt start to move. I then creep up with shovel...

Re: Switching to Bent/FF lawn. Should I renovate or overseed
Perennial Ryegrass is one hardy grass and has found a way to keep popping up in my lawn even after a few treatments with Roundup. If you have the time I would recommend a full reno. I like PR but it looks course and out of place in a fine bladed lawn and tends to have a much darker green that makes ...
