Re: Tenacity in the fall for POA

I have tried the Fall Tenacity apps in the fall. They never worked well for me. I'd say wait for the spring when poa-a is easier to spot again. The August and Late September pre-m apps are huge, don't miss those. Tenacity is not a substitute for Prodiamine or Dimension. ... In the spring you have t...

... The same crew will also spread straw. Of the various things you mentioned, that one that really concerned me was you mention of using straw. Many people here have had bad experiences with straw containing various weed seeds. I'd really suggest using something that won't have any weed seeds in i...

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

I didn’t technically do anything on the lawn, but I purchased 125 lbs of seed to tackle the front lawn reno later in August. It’s ~26k sq feet, gonna be a lot of work. 26ksqft is a lot of area for a renovation! Are you reliant upon natural watering, or do you have a way to irrigate some of that area?

Re: llO0DQLE Front Lawn 2022

I hammered it with spoon feeding synthetic N, some Milo and lots of irrigation and this is where we are now. https://i.postimg.cc/cKhvbmdz/20220624-172748.jpg It's looking pretty decent but still a long ways away from what it once was. In time it will get there. Looking better! Just needs some more...

Re: llO0DQLE Front Lawn 2022

So glad to see your post. In all honesty, the lawn looks like it mostly just needs some fertilizer to get the KBG to do its thing and spread back in again!

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Mowed the lawn again today. It turned out to be the 10th mowing so far in 2022. Currently it seems that the front lawn wants to be mowed every four days. Seeing some significant drought stress in the lawn, so I guess it's time to run the irrigation system. Up to this point, it has been sufficiently ...

Thanks, gryd, for posting about what you were able to find available for this year! I don't have any renovations plans, and do have some Bewitched and Prosperity from a few years ago that I had "just in case" but never needed to sow anywhere...

Re: Is this thing a weed or?

MorpheusPA beat me to the punch. Basically, a weed is simply a plant growing where it isn't wanted. Wikipedia says "A weed is a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, 'a plant in the wrong place'." So, a few takeaways from the above: 1 - any given kind of plant isn't fundamentally a...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy Soil Test - Spring 2022

Tonight, just as the rains from the cold front passing through were beginning to start, I managed to get down fertilizer on our lawn. Got 3 of 5 spreader-loads applied before the intermittent sprinkles of rain turned to a steady light rain, but pressed on to "Git 'Er Done!" Applied our normal mix of...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy Soil Test - Spring 2022

Yeah, I get the annual bout with P. triv myself. It's not fun, but it's a fact of life when neighbors grow the stuff and think of it as their lawns... Boron is a fact of life on the east coast. Anywhere it rains reasonably, really, as it leaches almost as easily as nitrogen does--or very easily. I ...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy Soil Test - Spring 2022

Thanks, Morph! I'm eager to get the needed boron added again. I guess I've just resigned myself that our soil basically seems to need continual supplementation of potassium via sulfate of potash and boron via Borax, just like the grass needs a regular supply of nitrogen. At least everything else see...

Ken-n-Nancy Soil Test - Spring 2022

Below are the results of ken-n-nancy's Spring 2022 soil test. This is our eighth year since becoming members of the BL/ATY site. We're looking for full recommendations again, including the application of micronutrients. We still have most of the "fearsome foursome" left over from prior years. For th...

Re: Psu4me Soil Sample '22

Side note: While trying to find good combinations, I discovered that I've been overseeding with native and naturalized grasses for at least 15 years. Amazing how time goes by, isn't it? I still think of "lawn care" being a comparatively new hobby, but I realized a couple days ago we're now in our 1...

Re: Leftovers?

I use up the partial bag the next time I apply that product again (which then often results in a new partial bag). For example, my lawn is 12500 square feet, so with product bags regularly being sized for 5000 square feet, I regularly end up with a half-bag left over, which I then save until the nex...

Picked up twigs and sticks?
Yes, the mower really doesn't make them as small as I'd like, having them end up about the size of popsicle sticks or pencils. There's a lot of them, too -- seems like our oaks and maples shed a lot of small twigs and sticks every year!

Re: Tenacity Pre-em

Next question, which is probably splitting hairs, how long should I wait to mow? Conventional wisdom for foliar-applied herbicides is 48 hours, but since we're trying to work it down into the soil anyway can I just mow tomorrow before it rains tomorrow night? We're getting a little shaggy and tomor...

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Finally caught up on the early-season lawn care tasks! We always seem to be short of time to get them all done, which keeps us from posting about them here, as we figure it's more important for us to be working on the lawn than to make postings about working on the lawn! In any case, we have now cau...
