Re: Red thread

Anyone have any experience with getting rid of red thread? I got rid of my red thread that came back every year no matter what preventative fungicides I applied - I blew up my lawn and planted Bewitched! No more red thread, problem solved. I know this seems excessive, but depending on the age of yo...

Re: Final Urea App Question....

Drop it! The more you wait the more you risk cold temps with frozen ground that wont absorb anything. I dropped mine last weekend and had a nice rain the day after.

Re: Watering New Grass and Fungus

Have you cut the new grass yet? I would think you could get down to irrigating once a day now with the current temps and time of year. Check the soil to see if it looks dried out, if not, don't water, if yes, water. I would water around 12:00 so the grass dries out before nighttime. With nighttime t...

Your reno thread/results was a very large contributing factor on me taking the plunge this fall to a Bewitched monostand (albeit only half the yard)
Thanks jskiero, hope things turn out well for you.

Re: Thoughts on 2020 Summer Sesaon Results

We have had a very dry and hot summer and continues to be dry. I needed to mow twice a week and my lawn stayed very green all summer long. I was watering about every 4 days in the heat of the summer applying about 0.5 inches at each watering. Now I'm applying 0.5 pounds/1K sqft of Urea weekly and th...

46-0-0 Urea

So I just purchased a bag of 46-0-0 Urea and would only like to apply 0.5lbs of N/1Ksqft starting in September and applying weekly. With my lawn being 12,000 Sqft, I would only be applying 12 pounds. Question - Only applying 12 pounds would be difficult to apply uniformly, so how do other people app...

Re: How is everyone making out with disease this year?

I have been using Serenade every two weeks and so far so good. I do have some brown spots in certain areas I'm trying to figure out but I don't think they are a disease. I know the brown spots on the hell strip are from dogs peeing on it. Overall, with the hot and humid weather and nights in the 70'...

Re: Honda HRX 217 Suction issue

I have had Honda mowers for 20 years now. I purchased a new HRX two years ago and don't have the issue you show. I typically cut at 2.5 inches and always mulch. You can't let the grass get too long or you could have some issues like you show. I mow twice a week without these issues.

Re: Can you apply both Prodiamine and Dimension during the same season?

No issues as long as you don't exceed the yearly limits for both. I apply Dimension in the spring and Barricade (Prodiamine) in the late summer/fall. I just applied my first split application of Barricade this past weekend. I prefer granular for pre-emergent.

Re: Lawn help

You will be SHOCKED at how long you have to water to get even .5 inches down all at once. It will be several hours. Just as a reference, my irrigation systems puts out 0.33 inches/hour on average. I had to make some nozzle adjustments to even out the output. You will find that stationary heads put ...

Re: Lawn help

Planting a lawn in the spring and expecting it to be green all summer when we have temps in the 90's with very little rain is asking allot. Do you know how much water you were applying at 20 minutes? My guess, less than 1/10 of an inch. It's not about how much time you water, it's about the amount o...

Re: Boulevard battle

I really think it comes down to three things: 1) Good soil at least 6 inches deep 2) Good irrigation 3) Good Cultivar I have 100% Bewitched and my strip no matter how hot, and how dry, always looks good. Sure a few dogs have killed some spots from peeing on it but it comes back. I have some areas th...

Lawn is looking pretty good. About the best it has looked so far this year. I've found that our lawn tends to peak around July 1-10 in most years.
Lawn is looking very good Ken-n-nancy, gotta love Bewitched!

Re: Weather radar anxiety

I watered yesterday morning figuring the chance of thunderstorms wouldn't amount to anything as well as being 5 days since I watered last. I typically water every 5 days in the summer. Ended up getting 1.5 inches of rain throughout the day from thunderstorms. If I didn't water yesterday morning, we ...

What made you decide to do 4 oz per thousand rather than 2 oz? Which I think is the standard rate.
A couple of reasons:
1) It's relatively inexpensive
2) The 4 ounce rate would theoretically give better protection against a fungal outbreak

Re: How often are you applying Serenade?

I do 4 ounces/1K sqft every two weeks regardless if we get rain or not. Haven't had an issue since I renovated to Bewitched in 2016. If I know it's going to rain the day after I'm suppose to apply it, I would hold off until the day after it rains. I just applied last Saturday and irrigated this morn...

Re: Is this bentgrass? Floppy bright green top heavy grass?

It looks like Bent grass to me. I would see if Tenacity takes it out. If your going to kill off these areas, then over seed, I would just go ahead and renovate the front totally with a good seed mix that you will be happy with. Over seeding in my opinion never works out like people think. The grass ...
