Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Everything today, to start the season. .3lb N from Milorg as a kickstart, carrying Cu, Bo, Zn micro treatments. Pre-M down for the season, and first treatments of Ferrous Sulfate and SOP. 6 hours to cover 20K feet. I need some rest.

Big rain tomorrow/Sunday to water it all in.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Today was prep day. I finally found that magic golf course supply store, seller of SOP, etc, tucked away in the corner of an industrial area. $300 and 700lbs later, I'm loaded for the season and tomorrow is get-started day.

Re: How does a Cold Spring effect CG/POA control....

I'm pretty sure weeds, like most plants, respond to the weather, not to the calendar. They'll move when the weather conditions are right. PreM for the crabgrass when soil temps rise and Forsythia blooms. The Pre-M time for most other weeds that will be coming up soon was last September. I've been do...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Looking pretty decent for end of winter - I guess the intense fall program was effective. I feel bad for the folks across the street - our local power/sewer/somebody came and dug holes/trenches in 5 adjacent yards and left them with nothing but depressed mounds of dirt. Soil still in the low 40's. L...

Re: Pre m and snow?

Today I woke up to 7in of snow... I guess that counts for watering it in :) As long as it melts quickly. Snow sitting on top of the grass likely doesn't count as watering it in. That's not a problem with Pre-M, it will get there eventually. But if you're doing something like dropping a micro treatm...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Raked and cut the front yard today - it's actually looking pretty good for pre-growing season. It took quite a while and my back is sore, so I think it will just be a straight cut in the back tomorrow (4x as large). Then 1-3" of snow tomorrow night. It looks like the 15th before Pre-m and any first ...

Re: Where Is The Forsythia Line?

GDD for me is still under 250, and the Forsythia I planted last year (as I can't find another anywhere near me) isn't showing anything yet. It will be interesting to see how they align this year. I haven't had Forsythia in the past, but GDD's window and the general "things are getting ready/perking ...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Most of the snow is gone, but forecasts are still for cold, all the way out through 45H/31L on April 9th. Two years ago I was rushing to get Pre-M down on 4/2, the first Saturday SiteOne opened for the year, as soil temps hit 58 on 4/1. Today, it's 40. It looks to be sunny on Sunday, so I'll probabl...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

In hind sight, Im glad I took my soils ample. At least that is out of the way, I would have been waiting until April to get that done. Same here. I beat the rush, already have almost all of the material, and am ready to go. Now Mother Nature just needs to co-operate. Winter Storm Warning on the fir...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

I have Copper, Borax, Zinc, Iron, leftover Urea/other, and a source for SOP. I also have soil temps in the upper 30's and a forecast for 8-10 inches of snow tomorrow. So what I did today will probably be the same as I do for another week or two - planning and waiting.

Re: Water solubility and permanence of Potash in soil?

Thanks - very helpful. That's much smaller than it appeared on their web site. SeedWorld was the site I had saved. It's also listed as "granular", so I expect it's about the same, and the cost for 2 bags, all-in - is 3 cents cheaper :). So a toss-up. I haven't found anything cheaper - shame to have ...

Re: Water solubility and permanence of Potash in soil?

I've also been looking for SOP on-line, as there's nothing local. Kelp4Less is cheap, but the "granules" are described as "pebbles" in the MSDS, and if they're not very water soluble, I wonder how well they're break down into the soil. They sell a powder, but it's much more expensive. I have a coupl...

Re: RichS 2018 Front Soil

Thanks Andy, I appreciate the input, and all that you guys do for us hobbyists. A couple of questions/confirmations- - Copper was a focus last year - it's increased enough not to worry about this year? - Any idea why Boron didn't budge? It was applied at the same time as Copper -3 tbsp/K, 6 times. I...

This delay is challenging. Looks like the 2017 link didn't get in the first post for some reason, I can't edit it, and I need to wait for the new one to show.

Here's the 2017 thread - trying one more time: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=22000&p=303220&hilit=RichS#p301915

Sorry, that's what happens when in a rush. Don't know why I'm getting "You cannot use certain BBCodes: [img." - going to have to post from an external host. RichS 2018 Front Soil

2018 soil tests for my front yard. Soil Compostion and standard soil tests. To my amateur eye, it looks like most things moved in the right direction. Other than Boron which, despite 6 treatements of 3tbsp/K didn't budge. Oddly, Copper, applied at the same time, move quite a bit. Maybe it's time for...

Re: So how'd the season go for everyone?

I agree on the lawn area. I focused Milorganite, Boron, Copper, iron spray treatment, and BLSC on the 5K in my front/side/near back. The rest of the back just got the regular fertilizer/urea treatments. And that was enough work as is. The difference is noticeable, but not view-able from the street.

Re: Soil Temps and Stoppage

I typically look for 5 days of soil temps under 50 at the depth of my thermometer, about 3.5 inches. There's an article out there that says shoot growth stops at soil temps of 40, but I've been watching/tracking for 15+ years and prolonged 50 degrees has consistently been accurate for me. I was at t...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?

Yeah, mostly just as a carrier. I tried both my regular fertilizer and Urea as a carrier and it didn't work - just blue/white powder at the bottom of the wheelbarrow I was mixing in. GrubEx worked OK, as it's a light and mixecd well, but I've used Milorg a few times now and am comfortable with the m...
