Re: Schreibdave's 2021 Soil Test

Hmmm. I have often felt like the balanced fertilizers I was using - either from the hardware store or from Tractor Supply - were sort of a low quality product. Among other things they tend to be less expensive than Milo or a Scotts product. They also seem to leave behind a granular residue that is s...

Re: Schreibdave's 2021 Soil Test

Hmmm. I've used soil BL soil conditioner with kelp help once or twice. Foliar iron once. Spectator and another fungicide a few times. Other than that... dog urine and poop .... I think I've used a random scotts product once or twice because I wanted to get rid of it. I think that's it. The first yea...

Edit: last year I mostly alternated milo with starter fert, not 10-10-10.

Schreibdave's 2021 Soil Test

Here's this year's test. My situation: 4 year old home, so the soil was heavily disturbed during construction. However they did scrape the top soil off to the side and attempt to put it back when the house was complete - I watched. All KBG lawn - Three sides will be 2 years old in the fall. The back...

Re: It's like mowing a rumble strip...

Is there anyone you could ask who might know why it's so bumpy? A neighbor maybe? That doesn't sound to me like a situation that would occur naturally. But in terms of solutions ... you've identified a variety of bad options. I'll add another bad option to your list: somebody here posted pictures of...

Re: Schreibdave's 2019 KBG Reno

Yea, I know the town compost stuff is frowned upon here but I have used it every year for the last 13 years for one thing or another and it doesn't produce any more weeds than they areas w/o the compost. And it is easy to fling from the back of the truck or wheel barrow. When I have used peat moss ...

Re: Poa or ????

So the tenacity lights it up and the certainty takes it out. What dosage, timing and frequency do u use for the certainty? And do u use mso?

Re: Poa or ????

Andy can you summarize what you see as the best strategy for Tenacity on Poa T? Dosage, frequency, time of year, etc? Also are you a proponent of MSO? Thanks

Re: Poa or ????

Looks like POA T to me. Having tried all the other solutions I think next year I will try to buy a roll of kbg sod and use that to patch poa T spots that I have dug out. I'm not even going to try spraying it with anything. My existing lawn is all kbg. It may not match perfectly but it will be better...

Re: Help, don’t know what happened or how to fix

Are those the areas that were reseeded after the drain was installed? If so, when was that? And what kind if seed?

Close up pictures would help a lot.

Re: Poor man's irrigation system?

I added 3 new spigots. Easy to do with pex. That simplified things a little.

We have low water pressure coming in from the town. About 35 psi. So I had a plumber install a pump to boost pressure to whatever i set it to, which is usually 60 psi or so.

Good luck!

Re: Grass identification and advice on next steps

I have heard Andy say that the seeds dont care about air temps so that would indicate a green light.

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

https://i.postimg.cc/GBJ8Syfv/20200818-220146.jpg We have germination on the evening of Day 5 (8/18). It took some hunting, but there are a few early arrivals to the lawn party. I unfortunately also got an inch of rain this morning with some heavy downpours mixed in. Areas where my buried downspout...

Good luck, now the wait begins, PR should be a lot quicker than the KBG!!
I need to change my profile. The backyard PR is what I just killed and I put down a kbg blend.

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

Looks great. I am basically at the same stage. Seed down, covered, rolled and now tweaking irrigation. I agree that exhaustion from a lawn care project is a different kind of exhaustion. What do your neighbor's think about your reno? Are they the type who will say "it looked fine to me, why'd you ki...

Re: Schreibdave's 2020 Backyard Renovation

Got seed down yesterday and finished covering it and rolling it today. Sprinklers are going as we speak. Sprinklers need a little adjustment and I need to put up some fencing to keep the dog out but otherwise, I am done! If last year is any guide I will be looking for germination in 7 days. https://...
