Re: Who is applying PGR this year?

Thanks, HLG. That's what I suspected. I'll hold off until drier conditions. Hopefully Wednesday.

Re: Who is applying PGR this year?

I'm finally gearing up for my 1st app of PGR+FAS. We got some rain last night and the hourly forecast says I have 4-5 hours of light winds and minimal threat of rain.

My question is, can PGR+FAS be applied to wet grass or should it be dry?

Re: chrismar's 2015 Front/Side Yard Renovation

Thanks Eden & k-n-n!

Yea, things took a while to wake up, and when they did I had some nice dandelion and clover invasions, but they were easily knocked out with WBG and WBG CCO. Things really started to look great a couple of weeks after I started feeding it at the beginning of May.

Re: Run 1 program or 2?

Some controllers have this functionality built in. Look in your manual for run/soak times. The mentality behind it is to reduce the amount of runoff. If you know how long it takes for X amount of water to infiltrate your soil you can certainly program your controller as you describe above, that is, ...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?

Yesterday: mowed at 4.5". Yes, I know, probably not the best idea for this time of year, but I let the lawn get a little taller than usual to try and get the seed heads to perk up so I could chop them off. It worked, and 99.9% of the seed heads are now gone. Going back down to 3.75" tomorrow. Today:...

Re: Mosquito Spraying

Last year we put out a bunch of citronella plants (also called mosquito plants) around the "people" areas of the yard (pool, eating & lounging areas). They worked remarkably well. So much so we're repeating it again this year.

Re: Bucket Veggies

I grew an entire veggie (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, etc) garden in buckets for many years (8ish?), and was always very successful. Some years more than others, but that was mainly due to the weather. The two most important things about growing veggies in buckets/pots is water (w...

Re: Looking to make mulch bed around some trees

Use a hose to lay out the shape and curves of the bed. The take a garden or square shovel and go follow the hose to make an edge. Remove the grass using a hoe or pick mattock. Definitely don't just mulch over the grass, it might look good to start but it'll be a headache down the road.

Got about 1" rain so far. OceanGro definitely does not have as distinct a smell as Milorganite.
I'm noticing the same this year. Last year's batch, one word: whoofty.

Triclopyr & Ornamental Grasses

Howdy- I have a bunch of ornamental grasses (maiden grass, fountain grass, golden grass & panic grass) that have some weeds in the mix. Mostly ground ivy and oxalis. Stuff easily controlled by WBG CCO. Is CCO safe to spray on these grasses? The manual just says to avoid Bahia, Bermuda, Centipede, Ki...

Sharpened remaining blade. Changed the mower's oil and filter. Trimmed, mowed and blowed ahead of tomorrow's rain. Looking forward to the first OG smell of the season.

Re: Removing fruit from young trees

If this is their 2nd year in the ground I'd let a few fruit stay on the tree. Maybe just 2 or 3.

I have 3 apple trees and a nectarine tree. This is their 2nd year in the ground. Sadly no flowers or fruit on any of them. :(

Threw down 315 pounds of OceanGro. Raised the mower deck to 3.875" (what a tremendous b*tch on this mower). Sharpened one of the two blades.

Re: Garden Weed Control

I haven't been terribly impressed with Preen, to be honest. I've only been using it for 2 seasons and I'm still doing a TON of hand picking in my 2,000 SF of mulched beds. Once I run out of this giant Costco tub I'm going to try prodiamine.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?

Edged, mowed and blowed yesterday. The triclopyr I sprayed a week ago seems to have eradicated 95% of the clover problem areas. A follow up spray will happen Sunday (time permitting). KBG seed heads galore, so I guess I should hold off on the PGR (again). Grr.
