Re: How 'bout it Transition zone?
I keep moving up my late winter/early spring dose and lose to the clover each year. So out comes the CCO bombs. Are you seeing clovers already too? They are all over my front sidewalk median & I'm further north of you! I laid down Prodiamine Pre_M in November & it did nothing to the clover. Looks l...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Blew out the remaining viburnum leaves - from the beds around the house - which just fall off & don't really wilt.
So the volume created about 2 hours of work.
Then mulch mowed whatever was left with the remaining gas in the tank.
2nd time I thought I was done this season...

Re: How 'bout it Transition zone?
We had a couple of overnight freeze snaps in November & temps were a couple of ° below avg. with nights mostly in the mid to uppder 30's. So due to those freeze snaps the grass turned blond earlier this year even with the 2 doses of Milo I laid down in October before the pause & the grass didn't gro...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Got off the plane from TPA & went straight to the lawn @ 2PM to give it another cut. Still some slight growth... Rake all the elm leaves from our front road verges. Was almost pitch black when I came in @ 5.45PM. Weather is supposed to be nice (hi 50's & lo 60's) the next 7 out 8 days. But the mid ...

Saturday: Mowed again @ 2.75".
Then sprayed Pre_M (Prodiamine).
Didn't trust rain forecast so I watered the Pre_M in for 30 mins each zone.

Re: Backflow Valve Protection?
I Insulations purpose is to prevent or slow down heat transfer. Not only protecting heated areas from losing heat to cool areas but also to keep cool areas from gaining heat from hot areas. The insulation would help against freezing for a short while. Any extended periods below freezing and the thi...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
After last week's 4 days of rain, grass came back strong. But I am down to a 2.5" cut & that's the lowest HOC for the year. Readying for leaves to just sit on top of the lawn to be mulched or swept up from now till latter half of December in these areas. Wrapped my backflow preventer after the the f...

Re: Backflow Valve Protection?
I'm lucky enough to have the backflow valve in my basement, but I'm not getting your logic -- insulation protects heated areas from losing heat to cold areas. If there is no heated area in play, what effect will the insulation have? Good point - but it's been a tried & true way to get a R - rated '...

Backflow Valve Protection?
I'm currently using some R6 Duct insulation wrapped around the valves & a trash bag to cover it all. Would like to increase my risk management. Anyone using a blanket/pink insulation/cover/box/fake rock to protect their irrigation backflow valve from freeze or year round? Would appreciate any feedba...

Re: Is it worth it to lay down Pre_M in the fall?
Is it "worth it"? I don't know whether you are aware that many/most of the weeds that "come up" in Spring really came up in the Fall and were small and waiting for the Spring to explode. Pre-M should go down in the Fall once soil temperatures drop under 70. That's in your rearview mirror and unders...

Is it worth it to lay down Pre_M in the fall?
My lawn made it through 2017 with minimal weed pressure even as I miscalculated the application rate & essentially laid barely any Pro_Diamine back in April. I overseeded on Sept 4th & this weekend will be 60 days since & the Pro_Diamine label says I can now apply Pre_M. I don't plan to do it for an...

Got off work early on Friday.
Picked up 3 bags of Milo.
Drop the cut down another 1/2”, laid down the Milo, did some weeding, then turned in the Irrigation to water the Milo in.

Re: BLSC and KH Questions
For the KH, you have options. I mix them in 1 gallons of water each, separately, then use 2-4 oz per thousand square feet of each gallon to apply. You can also mix both of them together in 2 gallons of water, and then use 4 to 8 oz per thousand square feet to get exactly the same amount of each pro...

We had 3 earlier this past summer and was able to relocate 2.
Basically bought a human cage and trap them in with sunflower seeds.
Snagged a couple of squirrels too.
Fun.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Apparently when I overseeded in September & watered everyday for 4 weeks, the wet grass caused neighbor's grass cutting service's machine slip on it & when they tried to catch it before falling off onto the roadway -basically took a 3 ft swatch out of my newly seeded front sidewalk median. So had th...

Re: Fight the crabgrass or save my battle for spring
I've been fighting crabgrass for the entire season and have failed. I used the Ortho weed control plus crabgrass control which was ineffective. I have since purchased Tenacity and Quinkill with the thought of using Tenacity as a pre-emergent and Quinkill as a post emergent. Should I continue my cra...
