Re: Folks with Fescue - do you overseed even if grass survives Summer?

I don't know much about your area VA, but whenever you over-seed your giving something up. In my case I have a bad POA-A problem, over-seeding in the fall prevents me from applying a pre-m for it. But I have a full KBG that will thicken up and spread on its own. Being patient allows me to prevent PO...

Re: Adding OM - How much peat moss can the lawn take? (planning for 2021)
I got a peat moss spreader and it's kind of a game changer for me - takes 1/2 the time and 1/2 the effort to spread the peat moss, and it goes down wonderfully evenly/consistently somewhere around 1/8" thick.
The compost spreader was...

Re: Thoughts on 2020 Summer Sesaon Results

This year was tough, we missed every large rain event, we have had maybe 4-5 days of 1/2” of natural rain sine May. Add to that the local news reporting we had a record hot summer. I installed a DIY irrigation system and it was the only reason the lawn got through the summer. Last year I almost lost...

Re: Winter Pre-M

For the fall, actually some time around august you put down your 1st pre-m app for poa-a. Then around right now you put down a second app for the rest of the fall. Some people might even drop some late October. The spring pre-m is mostly for crab grass The late august / early fall apps are for poa-a...

Re: How many weeks when it's green again?

Last summer in an attempt to kill off the poa-a in my KBG lawn, I really stretched our the watering, I felt like I border line killed it. I had high hopes for the fall fertilizer plan, but the truth was that September had temps in the mid 80’s and we never got much rain. Last years lawn never really...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

How does everyone keep them selves from over doing it with the Urea? :-) This is my second week; I carefully measured out the 1lb I needed for about 1,000sf, I then "feed the birds" as my SO says, and once again I found myself going for just a little more to get some spots I missed :-) The problem m...

Re: Spreader settings

I used to have a classic drop spreader that finally died on me, it was a perfect size for my small lawns and best of all, folded up nice and small when I wasn't using it. I am still looking for a used one on Craigs List to replace it. I found that it was really good for dropping BSF (Milo), because ...

MorpheusPA: Just curious to compare my experience from last year, how long does that take to get back to normal?

Will that get back to normal by the fall, or does it take until next spring before the KBG is back to growing well and spreading?

Re: Correct steps for lawn reno when dealing with triv?

Triv is a real nightmare to deal with. If you do have it aerating and dethatching will just spread it as it spreads by staloons that creep along the ground, every time you cut one it’s now in a new spot. The triv also goes dormant in summer, so even if you spray it with glyphosate it’s not doing any...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
None, technically. If rainfall is expected within a week, you'll be absolutely fine. If you have an extraordinarily high pH, you might potentially lose some nitrogen to the atmosphere if the urea gets damp from dew. But the amount is unli...

Got my 1st urea app down and watered in Friday night before the storm we never got, but thats another story. :-) But I already notice the lawn perking up today when I cut it. Lawn made it through this summer much better this year than last year, can't wait to see how the weekly Urea apps works when ...

How to tell if your Prodiamine 65 WDG is still good?

I thought I read somewhere that Prodiamine 65 WDG goes bad and isn't effective after a few years. Is this true?

and if so, is there anyway to tell what year it was made from container?

I have a jug of it I have been using for 3 years, I hate POA-A more than buying another jug :-)

Lawn has gotten really thin and I have all kind of random weeds popping up. I realize its still hot for doing herbicides for weeds, but this stuff is popping up in a bunch of spots along with random clover....
Very wet spring and summer, rains almost every day. I treat my front and side yard (12,000 sqft), 95% disease free, doing good. Back yard (20,000 sqft) untreated has disease, probably 70% disease free. Constant rain and with hot North Caro...

Re: I've killed my lawn

Most people don’t seem to realize lawns need water. There are some people who don’t water at all, but they also seem to live with the dormancy that comes from it. Some grass like kbg, if it’s mature enough can go dormant, but even then, do not expect a kbg lawn to just go back to its prime June appe...

Re: How is everyone making out with disease this year?

I ended up dropping Disease-ex two days ago. The lawn seems like it bounced back a little already from that app or the cooler night we had. The grass percked right up. Ironically i noticed the poa-a patches kind of bounced back also. All kind of poa-a seed heads popping up in the middle of august. T...

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. I live in mass and read about veterans deaths in that facility, it hits home when you start realizing these stories aren't just numbers and there are real people behind the news stories.

Re: Overseeding area impacted by fungus

Just remember that the frequent watering during germination won't help with the fungus. I guess thats the trade off and the problems of a northern mix. With KBG the dead spots fill in, in a mix the frequent watering might cause more disease. Since your betting the lawn won't come back anyway, the fr...
