How to fix a tire rut?

My yard was really starting to look awesome after my fall aeration and overseed. And then this happens. I am P*$$ED! We are currently in the midst of a remodel and lots of trucks coming and going. Can improve it was them? Of course not. Though this damage looks too wide and deep for anything but a t...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

You northern guys start so much earlier! I just overseeded and I won’t even begin applying urea until mid-October. Last urea typically goes down after Thanksgiving.

Re: Fertilizing (starter?) AFTER overseeding

Another con of dropping starter fertilizer with the seed for an overseed job promotes growth of the existing grass, which can shade out the seedlings. That’s why I always wait about a week after seeding to fertilize.

Re: Qs re fall overseeding fescue with KBG

Dropped my seed starter fertilizer earlier than expected today because I’m already getting fescue seedlings, in some cases an inch tall, just 4 days after seeding. This is the first time I used SoilMoist so perhaps that helped but not sure. And I aerate because I have extremely high clay content in ...

Re: Removing bermuda grass from TTTF

I also use this combination at a rate of 1tsp Fusilade, 4tsp Triclopyr, and 2tsp Non-Ionic Surfactant in a falling of water over 1,000sqft. It works, but be prepared to do this at least 3 times per year for several years to get good control. Especially if it continues unabated in your neighbor’s yar...

Re: Qs re fall overseeding fescue with KBG

All done. Man that was back breaking work. Dropping from a 3 to a 1 was too much so had to mow and bag twice. Filled 7 50gal bags of clippings. Finally finished scalping and bagging by noon today. Then the aerator. Then the seed. My yard looks like hell! But I think it’ll look much better in 3 weeks...

Re: Qs re fall overseeding fescue with KBG

Here we go. Mulch mowed down a mid-setting manageable height yesterday evening. Tonight is the worst task - scalping and bagging 10,000sqft. Tomorrow aerate and seed my 90/10 fescue/KBG mix. Going to try the SoilMoist for the first time - couldn't get the seed coat so I'll be putting 1 pound of gran...

Re: Qs re fall overseeding fescue with KBG

Ok. That’s what I suspected. The typical overseed rate is 5 pounds. I think I’ll cut it to 3 overall and then spread a little more over the damaged areas.

Re: Qs re fall overseeding fescue with KBG

I didn’t get any responses so I’m try again. I went with a 90/10 fescue/KBG blend manufactured by Landmark Seed. My lawn is still pretty thick, at least in most areas. Definitely a few areas (dog damage, brown patch, dead Bermuda areas) where the grass is thinner. How many pounds per 1k sqft would y...

Re: How exactly to mow lower in preparation for seeding (or other purposes)

I gradually mulch cut the grass down to about a 3 on my mower in the weeks leading up to “yard day” and then the evening before I scalp it at lowest setting and bag. It’s still a hellacious job scalping and bagging 10,000sqft but pre-cutting to a more manageable height helps. And I still get a decen...

Qs re fall overseeding fescue with KBG

Here in south central Kansas we had an excellent summer. Relatively cool and wet. As a result, my yard is still looking great overall. Generally green and thick. I have a few areas of brown patch, dog damage, and heat damage near pavement. My yard is mostly fescue with a some KBG I’ve overseeded the...

Re: My Toro suddenly quit - thoughts?

Yes, cleaning the carburetor did the trick, even though it didn't look that dirty. Was surprisingly easy task. I didn't even have to empty the fuel line - I just propped the mower back on its handle while I cleaned.

Re: Thoughts on Ego versus Kobalt cordless mowers?

I bought an electric because my gas mower finally died and I was tired of gas and engine maintenance. I now have no spark plugs, oil changes, carburetors, or gas to worry about, and much much quieter. I chose the Kobalt based upon: 1. Price (nearly $100 cheaper) 2. 2 batteries (yes, I should get at ...

High PH

Soil test says I have 7.6 PH and recommends I lower it by adding sulfur. Agree? How much do you think I should add per 1k? Where should I look for a good deal on it?

Re: Thoughts on Ego versus Kobalt cordless mowers?

I decided to try the Kobalt mainly because of price. It starts at $449, but after using a 10% off coupon I bought online for $1.99, and another 11% rebate (in form of a Lowes GC) promotion currently running, it brought my price down to well under $400, tax included. by contrast, Home Depot just rais...

Re: My Toro suddenly quit - thoughts?

I put a brand new spark plug in and added oil (it was low). It did start once but with a lot of shaking. Now it makes a knocking noise when I try to start. I'm going to try to sell it as is for repair and move on.

Thoughts on Ego versus Kobalt cordless mowers?

My old mower just died, and unless I can get it fixed cheaply (see my other thread) I'll be buying a new mower soon. It looks like cordless electric mowers are finally "making the cut" for a lawn of my size. My yard is about 1/3 acre. I'm down to two models in stock at Home Depot and Lowes. Both are...

My Toro suddenly quit - thoughts?

I have a Toro Recycler about 9 or 10 years old. I've changed the oil in it maybe 5 times but haven't maintained it as well as I probably should. Last oil change and new spark plug was spring 2016. I saved the old spark plug because it still had some life in it. All season, it has taken about 3 pulls...
