Re: jfd.lew post reno soil test 2021

Thanks Andy. The only thing that has changed in water and mowing has been water restrictions this year, but those haven't affected me. I have always watered once or twice a week at least an inch per zone. Even with restrictions I have been able to continue that practice. I mow at 3.75-4” as needed. ...

jfd.lew post reno soil test 2021

Hey all, havent been around for a while. Decided to get back in the swing and get the lawn going again. Here is my soil test for 2021. Front yard - roughly 3200 sq ft Back Yard - roughly 9800 sq ft The front yard was reno'd to a 30% Bewitched, 30% Blueberry, 40% Midnight turf in 2019. It typically d...

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Tossed down another application of some good old spring N on the new KBG front and mowed both front and back. Finding milo right now is an exercise in futility so I went with some 18-24 I had lying around at half rate. I have to admit, I was timid about putting down N on the new reno while its been ...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

Thanks man. That one fungus that wiped out 80% of my yard is why, as much as I want to, I just won’t risk doing a mono stand. You know as well as anyone, it’s a shit ton of work. Nature gonna do what nature gonna do. But in the end, I had to tell myself ‘don’t stress about it, you’ve given that gras...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

First 'official' update. Dropped Milo two weeks ago at half bag rate and when I went to get some more everywhere was sold out. I had some 18-24-20 on hand that I dropped at half bag rate yesterday. I will be following Philes on this, so based off that I'm off to a good start anyway. The KBG is filli...

Re: Well this is a disappointment....

No close ups yet. Planning on that this weekend since it might be drier. The elite KBG is just the front yard, this is no-mix contractor sod in the back. I didn't want to do a reno on this large of an area with $$$ seed, knowing we are going to tear it up landscaping eventually.

Re: Well this is a disappointment....

Sorry for any confusion. I haven't had any prior posts regarding this. It's been a very wet few weeks here in Iowa, and these lighter patches popped up with a vengeance in my yard and my neighbor's. I haven't sprayed any Tenacity yet (or any chemical/herbicide/fungicide) on the backyard yet because ...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

Happy Spring!! I was out looking at the yard this afternoon, putting down some seed in a few bare areas as a stop-gap in the hopes some germinate, but if they don’t its not a huge deal. Mostly around the edges where it washed out a bit. My question is when would it be appropriate to spray Tenacity? ...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

Whew! So it’s been a while since my last update. Haven’t had much to update on because it’s been pretty slow. I’ve mowed the front short (2.5”) 3x with a reel mower and it is starting to thicken up. There are very apparent thin spots from the torrential rain we got the week after seeding, but I will...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

Question- I'm just finishing up drop date + 4 weeks. Growth is good in some areas, not good in other (washed out areas) form 2 weeks of rain. There are some spots that weeds are kicking my [banned word]. Is it too soon for a Tenacity application? Hopefully will reel mow for the first time in the nex...

Re: Help with ID for this wide bladed grass

Yep, my vote would be K31. I 'inherited' that in my old lawn from some cheap seed. Extremely fast growing and grows in big clumps. Also a pain to get rid of and is known to grow on the surface of the sun.

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

Captains Log, day 11. Rain, rain, rain. It has been 4 days since I've seen dry ground. My only hope is that Mother Nature will hold me in her good graces and knock it the h*ll off. Unfortunately we are expecting 7-8 inches more throughout this week. My Rachio hasn't ran in 4 days. Rerouting the down...

Looking good! Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail, and you planned this very well! I'm looking forward to how this turns out.

Re: Kbgfarmer's new lawn establishment

Brother I'm right there with you. It has been raining here every day and we are expecting another 7+ inches by Saturday. Last night we had flash flood warnings all over the place. I'm going to reseed some of the spots that have washed out and lay those Pennington germination blankets down today. Jus...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

How's the lawn looking? Seems like you've had similar weather as me except you waited to seed after the big rain storm. I'm 15 days out today and can't see a ton of germination. Just trying to compare with someone in similar situation. Thanks! I'm SO glad I waited for that storm to pass. I would ha...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

I've got a feeling this is going to turn out really nice for you. Good work so far. Oh good Lord I hope so! I put a lot of manual labor (moving soil/compost) into this, so I'm really crossing my fingers. Regardless, the 3 cultivars I chose will be leaps and bounds better than the contractor NoMix t...

Re: jfd.lew forced Reno :-(

I'm a proud new papa! 6 days since seed down. A little bit of weed pressure. I didn't put Tenacity down, which I wish I would have looking back. Oh well, I can take care of that stuff later. https://s22.postimg.cc/9jxt9s4rx/IMG_1428.jpg https://s22.postimg.cc/l91sxrb65/IMG_1429.jpg https://s22.posti...

*GASP* Thats not dirt! That's a 100% mono stand of the elite cultivar resolutum materiales (compost). For shame.
