Re: Fusebox 2017 Front/Side Reno

Doing really well! It's at 3" right now and handling the heat like a boss :) I experimented with 7/8" in the spring so that was fun :) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/eiaJUXYQiCtvnfCkRi-fKfiTmX5E06H810aU8suudyDDJ2aeY1vLcArrxLVvzIour8UkLlWH8zBxEnR2w5JgfUagfagm4htvQKl1VAd-HoykdwmtS2yYgnLuEUe0xfHPwEB...

Re: Quick Confirmation Please

Triv is my guess. I haven't read anything about Poa annua having stolons. I've read documentation that Triv and Annua both can have the ripples on the blades but Triv (in my experience) is the only one that smells very "earthy" when you grab it with your fingers. Obviously this is anecdotal. I have ...

Whatever it is - I have it too. It seeds, it has stolons, and it's floppy - and smells "earthy". And never goes away...

Re: My rhizome introduction

I, too, have been enjoying (sorta?) pulling spreading KBG out of my beds. It's really neat to see for someone like me coming from a NoMix/PRG lawn. This stuff is pretty invasive.

Re: Fusebox 2017 Front/Side Reno

Thanks - it's taken a lot to get here - mainly attacking the Poa annua and keeping a solid Pre-m down. Otherwise I would've seeded the bare areas this fall -- I'm really hoping to see the spreading properties of KBG convince me that I made the right decision. Again, I'm tempering my expectations unt...

Re: Fusebox 2017 Front/Side Reno

I'd grade it around a "C" overall. I had some challenging areas due to Poa annua and irrigation coverage issues. It has been REALLY slow to try to fill in and I've only made progress by plugging from pots and other areas. So far I'm pretty disappointed (coming from a pure perennial ryegrass reno) bu...

Even though I have plenty of Poa annua mixed into my KBG right now, this time around I have enough KBG established to win the battle eventually.

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation

What if you just use your moderately aggressive approach plus solid Pre-M regimen for the next couple years? I'm in the same boat and at times it can be easy to succumb to the seemingly overwhelming situation but Poa annua can be beat with time. There will almost always be Poa annua here in Michigan...

Re: Rachio Gen 2 and IFTTT or API Integration with Soil Sensors?

Where would you put a big probe like that? Wouldn’t there be a pretty big risk of damaging it with a lawn mower? Or if you put it to the side of your lawn, in an area you don’t mow, wouldn’t the readings be wrong? IF I had a probe like the one I shared, I'd remove it before mowing and replace it wh...

Re: Dealing with Heatwave in Young Reno

As someone that just did a (successful) late spring reno within an hour of your location, I can tell you that I didn't deviate much from how I would've handled irrigation during a fall reno. I kept my plan simple but didn't overwater so the grass could develop better roots and start to mature. My la...

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation

I would definitely tread lightly with the continued Tenacity (making me nervous too). I did a 4,2,2 (oz/A) (2 weeks, 1 week, 1 week) spray on my Poa annua explosion and it kicked the bucket, no questions asked (so did some of the PRG and Fine Fescue that was leftover from the No-Mix pre-reno. I thin...

Re: Possible PR Lawn - Need Advice

If a "quick fix lawn this year" and "reno next year" are on the table... is there some legal requirement forcing you to actually establish something this year (erosion permit etc.)? Do you have the option of letting the ground freeze as is over winter and deal with it next year from scratch? I feel ...

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation

I had germination still happening over 28 days after seed down - you definitely need to pump the brakes. You'll see varied speeds in establishment - perfectly normal. I still have a couple areas that are going very slowly and I seeded in May (around 90 days post seed down now).

Re: Fusebox 2017 Front/Side Reno

Thanks. It seems that lower applications over a longer term seem to be more effective, overall. Makes sense with something that tends to rebound from the dead. So that essentially means 0.25 oz/A rate with spoon-fed N and Fe to help with KBG chlorosis. From what I understand this will be a battle fo...

Re: Fusebox 2017 Front/Side Reno

Poa trivialis explosion in the back (medium shade). SURPRISE!

Is it best to way for the Certainty "regimen" in spring (Where it's been shown to be more effective) or start hitting it now in fall?

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation

That's great news! You'll be pleasantly surprised at what happens with "1 KBG plant per square inch". They will mature faster and be healthier. Glad this is all turning in the right direction for you. Fall is here for us Michiganders :)
