Re: Fallowed 3 times in fall still non desirables
Did you seed with gold tag seed? It could have been introduced with your seed if you had anything but 0.0.0 for weed content or other crop categories.

Re: New cool season turfgrass species: "TTRF"
I’m over the hybrid miracle grass claims.
Every few years something new is released that is supposed to be a game changer. (RTTTF, hybrid blue grasses, etc) Give it a few years and let’s see what happens. So far I’ve seen nothing that beats the traditional grasses. Ymmv

Re: How Many Times Did You Mow?
I’m reminded of an Eleanore Roosevelt quote. When asked the secret to life, she supposedly said, when something is empty, I fill it up. If something is full, I empty it.
That’s sort of my answer to your question. I don’t count. I cut the lawn when it needs it.

Depends on your system and your yard. Have you asked your installer?

Re: Is master valve needed?
Sort of true. The leak will impact the zone it’s in or the main line when the system is running. So if you run it weekly for several hours. You might see the grass volcanoes that typically are signs of a leak. The biggest advantage is you save on your water bill because it does not leak 24/7 I’d get...

Re: water soluble and soil temp
No idea what’s in that bag. Sounds like a time released thing. But I’ve always relied on grains with organic fertilizer. It’s just easier. Either way, if it is truly organic, the soil temperature is what matters. Whether is dissolves in water or not, organic fertilizer tends to be microbe dependent....

Re: water soluble and soil temp
I’d suggest that anything broken down would be more easily digested . But I’m having a hard time thinking of an organic fertilizer that isn’t water soluble. All the grains are. Milorganite is too. Something rare like cotton seed maybe? I’ve personally never used an organic fertilizer that didn’t dis...

Re: water soluble and soil temp
Water soluble in the case of soybean meal means it dissolves in water.
It still requires active soil micro organisms to make it available to your grass.

Re: Fall new seeding - Starter Fertilizer and Tenacity
You know your climate better than me. But I suspect you are getting close to the time when the microorganisms that make Milorganite work will be dormant. I’d use the Tenacity if it were me. But not being a TTTF or Rye guy, I’d check the label on whether it is safe on those grass types. I believe it ...

Re: Help with Grass Around Maples
You could try planting fine fescue under the trees. But frankly, trees use a lot of groundwater. Between competing with the trees for water and the trees shading out the sun, it’s difficult to grow grass in those conditions. You could try overseeding every year and providing more water in that area....

Yep. Go with what works best in your location. Just make sure you plant brownpatch resistant TTTF cultivars. Otherwise you’ll just end up same problem different grass.

Re: Best varieties of grass to mix with KBG lawn
Unless you’re planting a monostand (single cultivar), you’ll always have uneven growth. A Monoculture (one type) is better than a mix. But my front yard KBG monoculture definitely shows some uneven growth.

Re: Need Help with Problem Patch of Lawn
Would Bewitched KBG possibly work under a tree? I used it in a shaded area of my KBG lawn and it worked wonderfully. My 2 cents worth and I wish you good luck! Bewitched works well. But finding sod quality (gold tag) seed has been an issue for several years. All the vendors who seem to have it are ...

Re: Weed Identification
Weed identification from pictures is not so much a science but guesswork, at least when it comes to people. I don’t like guessing. I’d suggest using the App Store on your iPhone or Android and download one of the dozens of plant and weed identification apps. There are certain tasks that a computer c...
