Re: tph018's Soil Test: April 2020
Hi Andy, The 2019 season was a bit of an aberration for me as I was not able to stick with my soil amendment schedule as hoped. As a result, in terms of soil amendments, I only was able to apply: 1. A heavy rate of calcitic lime only once in May 2019. 450 pounds worth over a 1 - 1.2 acre area. 2. 3 ...

Re: tph018's Soil Test: April 2020
Hi @bryankloos! We should definitely meet up... I live in neighboring Wilton! I have been at this lawn care stuff for the past 5-6 years, time permitting of course, but it is enjoyable to see results at the end of the day when the work is put in. If you are ever on the look out for lawn amendment su...

Re: To late to the prodiamine party?
I also dropped my prodiamine yesterday, Saturday March 28, prior to yesterday and today’s set of rains, and I am in southwest Connecticut where the forsythia have started blooming over the past 1-2 weeks.

Stihl battery products
Are there any fans out there of the Stihl battery products? I have been slowly adding to my existing collection of Stihl AP products, including a hedge trimmer, a long-reach hedge trimmer, a chainsaw, a string trimmer, and a leaf blower and find the products to work exceptionally well and I very muc...

Re: My 4 sons backpack sprayer
I certainly recommend the My 4 Sons backpack sprayer! I purchased the platinum package a few years back which came with a carrying cart for the sprayer and I recommend this battery-powered sprayer over my prior Chapin 4 gallon sprayer.

Re: What are you paying for Urea this year?

Re: tph018's Soil Test - April 2018
Thanks, Andy! So, more of the same routine... Yes, indeed, the eye test currently shows a much nicer lawn than the soil test so I do hope it was simply some variation on the soil sampling that was submitted to Logan Labs.... It looks like I'll be doing the following for 2018: 1. Apply the "Heavy" ra...

Sorry for the typo on my end in the previous post. I meant to say 46-0-0 (which is urea) rather than 0-0-46!

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I’m in southwest Connecticut and managed to apply my winterizer (Green Mountain Fertilizer 0-0-46 urea) to the lawn this past Sunday, December 3 in anticipation of this evening’s rain shower. The forecast for the upcoming Sunday calls for a chance of snow... Last year, I applied winterizer on the ea...

HRX217VKA for mulching leaves only
Hi, Is a Honda HRX217VKA too much of a lawn mower for only mulching leaves during each autumn? I'm happy with my existing lawn mowing service for my 2 acre lot of land in Connecticut. I'm thinking about further increasing the organic matter in my soil and am considering purchasing a Honda HRX217VKA ...

Re: Solu-Cal Calcitic Lime?
@Green: I purchased Solu-cal at Valley Green in Norwalk, CT a few weeks back at a price of $14 per 50 pound bag. No sales tax. (I realize $14 vs $16 is not particularly large but 12.5% difference may be a big enough factor in your analysis to go with this product over another calcitic lime product)....

Re: Grub control refresher course
Green, Yes, Connecticut has indeed limited the use of neonicotinoids including clothianidin, dinotefuran, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam to certain professionals. I observe that the Valley Green shop in Norwalk, CT has limited its selling of Imidacloprid products the last couple of times I stopped on...

Re: tph018nwu's Soil Test - April 2017
But of course.... A 50 pound bag of 0-0-50 SOP (Soluble Potash 50%, Sulfur 18%) which is "micro greens grade" or SGN of 100 is priced at $40. Valley Green says that the smaller prill size accounts for the higher relative cost compared to other products. Manufacturer is Ferti Technologies of Canada. ...
