Why does Milorganite recommend a Thanksgiving application?
I've been blindly following Milorganite's bag directions for the past 2 years which is 4 apps/year. After reading up on the concept of winterizing in the cool season forum instead of just throwing stuff down, it seems counter-intuitive to me why you would want to apply purely slow release N right be...

Re: Fall Nitrogen 101 (aka Winterizing?)
I plan to go to Site One this weekend and see if they have a high N low K fert. When calculating the 2lbs N/k application after the pause, should I also account for the amount of N contributed by Milorganite? I've been following the bag app instructions, so I have another app coming up in mid Novemb...

Re: Help with Overseed
Thanks again for your help, g-man. I went to Home Depot and they quoted me 500 sqft of KBG sod at $400 which is way more than I want to spend at this point. I'm more inclined to try seeding again in the Spring to repair the bare spots. I'm just afraid to try again and repeat any possible mistakes I ...

Re: Help with Overseed
I had germination on what I assume is the perennial ryegrass. It came in pretty well in the former stump area, but it's a bit patchy since I'm assuming the other seed hasn't germinated (yet I hope). The front area has been hit or miss. Some areas look alright, but others have seen no germination. Th...

Re: Help with Overseed
Sure thing. I have 2 areas that I seeded. First is a 2k sqft area in the front that has dead patches. I removed as much of the dead grass that I could after several hours with a dethaching rake. I then used a regular metal rake to scratch the soil up as much as possible. The remaining grass was mowe...

Re: Help with Overseed
I raked in the seed as best as I could around the surviving grass, but there is still some seed visible on the soil. I admittedly undershot how much compost I would need, and was unable to top dress the entire area, so I spread it around as best as I could with what I had available. I'm getting anxi...

Re: Help with Overseed
I would have liked to have seeded several weeks ago, but my county had a strict water restriction which only allowed watering twice a week. :( Plus it was extremely hot in August. It was only recently downgraded with the rains we've had in the past two weeks or so. It's also predicted that we're goi...

Help with Overseed
Hey guys. I'm just looking for some advice on my overseed. I have an area of ~2k sqft that got killed by the hot and dry summer. For my prep, I had my soil tested last month and was told I had a ph of 5.6. I applied Encap fast-acting Lime at double the bag rate as advised by calling the company. I a...

Re: Question about adding Lime and Phosphorus
Thanks for the link. So it's the change in pH when you add the soil to a neutral buffer solution. That makes a lot more sense.
Would you happen to have any thoughts on my question on the P content of the soil? Thanks a lot.

Question about adding Lime and Phosphorus
I'm not sure if this is better posted in the Soil forum, but I got my test done by my coop extension office so I wasn't sure if I was able to post there. As an aside, the lab report I received back is literally just a single row on an excel spreadsheet. I'll be using Logan in the future... I have 75...

Re: What's going on with my lawn? Fungus?
Sorry for bumping my thread. I was outside inspecting my dead patch today and noticed some lesions on the clumps of grass in the first picture. I also noticed that I need to sharpen my mower blade and plan to do that this week. I'm pretty sure the fescue is just dead because it looks grey and feels ...

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
The lawn was really long with all the rain we've been getting, so I mowed down to 3.5" over the weekend in the heat and sent a soil sample off to Agro-One. I also hand pulled some of my more mature crabgrass that survived two Tenacity sprayings. Next up is mowing my dead area down to 2.5" and dethat...

Re: Overseeding and Water Restrictions
I did ask about making exceptions for new grass, but they said they're only offering variances for people who need to water new plants that were put in before July 21st. :/

Overseeding and Water Restrictions
I wanted to overseed a small section of my lawn this year with TTTF, but my county imposed a water restriction that only allows watering 2 days a week. Obviously this doesn't work for germinating new grass seed. With no end to the restriction in sight, at what point do I just give up on overseeding ...

Re: Crabgrass germination
I've also having some crabgrass seedlings popping up in the past 3 weeks or so. I put down Dimension on April 22nd and didn't reapply because of planning to overseed.

Re: What's going on with my lawn? Fungus?
Andy, would pulling the stiltgrass by hand be effective? The patches are few and small enough that I could do it manually, but would this exacerbate the problem? Maynard, roundup is also an option if it's effective against it. I also did have my soil PH tested in the spring and it was 6.6. This was ...

Re: What's going on with my lawn? Fungus?
Not previously, but there is currently a HUGE pine tree adjacent to that spot. It's easily the tallest tree on the block. You can see the trunk in the third picture.
Here's a pulled back picture of the weed.

Re: What's going on with my lawn? Fungus?
Thanks Andy. I'll take more tomorrow when it's light out. Your foreboding post makes me think that it's Stiltgrass. :/ And thanks Maynard. I fully own up to not irrigating properly. I had a busted backflow preventer that I dragged my feet in fixing, so I fully expect my lawn to suffer for that. I di...

What's going on with my lawn? Fungus?
About a month ago I made a post here asking what this huge brown spot in my lawn was. I thought it was just due to drought stress due to not watering my lawn, so I started watering it an inch every week. Plus we got a ton of rain this past week. A month later and it's gotten progressively worse and ...
