Questions from Maryland
Hi All, I'm back. Yard is pretty good. Last year had a heck of a time with clover and chickweed, but kept it somewhat under control. Weird weather last year also left my law a bit spotty in places. I'm going to grab a soil report ASAP this week so I know what is what, but with my past problems, I've...

Re: Lime
I was going to edit my above post to add ratio of ca:mg to the Humates and Polyhydroxycarboxylic Acid, but it told me I can't edit the post. BTW, this is *great* information and while it may be irritating or stupid to some of the pros here, it is helpful and provides me with the information I need t...

Re: Lime
… don't. The simple version is that the math proves they're equal in cost and you need to make the judgment call. If you wish to discuss it, study humates and their application, study the patented process used by Encap/Mag-I-Cal/Solu-Cal, and study the bonds of Calcium vs Magnesium in the soil. I h...

Hi all, I've made a lot of slow progress with my yard since 2016 when I was hosting my lawn as a future moonscape. :) Andy10917's advice has invaluable and my yard actually looks better than most of my neighbors. Re: Weird Weather, What to do about weed treatment?
An update: On April 1st, I use Johnathan Green Crabgrass & Weed Preventer with dithiopyr, 3,5-pyridindicarbothioic acid... On April 15h, I use Spectracide Weed stop for lawns spot treatment with 2/4-d to treat areas that were really bad with weeds About March 15, I sprayed the Ortho Chickweed, clove...

Re: Weird Weather, What to do about weed treatment?
Darn, I just can't stay well. I'm just starting to get over another cold. So now I need some straight forward advice as I still haven't applied anything since the snow was still in my yard until a day or two ago. Now I need to know what I need to to and when to do it. I know there is lots of informa...

Re: Weird Weather, What to do about weed treatment?
The http://www.gddtracker.net is a neat tool. If I understand correctly, it mostly agrees with UMD's recommendations except UMD starts a little later at 3/15. That's good to know. I'll plan to put the PRE down as soon as the ice melts unless I hear otherwise. I think some of the things that those kn...

Re: Weird Weather, What to do about weed treatment?
... (1) Andy gave me a plan and I did pretty good, but due to the timing, the weeds took over ... (2a) I've read Andy's triangle approach and plan to hit first with the 2,4-D (2b) that also has some crabgrass preventer in it ... (3) Any advice given that I have grassy weeds, clover, oxalis, and a c...

Re: Weird Weather, What to do about weed treatment?
looks like you have a pretty wide variety of grass types going there. the first pic, looks like poa, amongst kbg, the 2nd pic looks like a patch of zoisa, the 3rd looks like maybe a clump of fine fescue, surrounded by like a K31 of course you really cannot tell from the photos you could try hitting...

Re: Weird Weather, What to do about weed treatment?
Sorry, to me, anything that looks grassy but obviously isn't normal grass is crabgrass. I'm horrible at identifying stuff. Hopefully the pictures I just posted will give some insight. I'll look at getting and putting down some pre-emergent this week if that is what I need to do. I still have a bag o...

Weird Weather, What to do about weed treatment?
Hi, In Maryland, we've had some weird weather this year. No real snow or percipitation to speak of this winter. The long range forcast says it will be mid-50s to !!70s!! for the next 25 days. I was thinking about putting weed control down in the beginning of march as I have some heavy patches of cra...

Re: Yellow Flowers/Weeds in my Lawn
Thanks for the tip. I'd hate to kill grass along with the weeds. Does the Triclopyr leave the grass healthy as long as you use it as directed? Also, it was about 10 to 14 days ago that I put the Weed Stop down. Should I wait another 2 weeks to put the Triclopyr down, or do it immediately to stop the...

Re: Yellow Flowers/Weeds in my Lawn
Oxalis. A good killer for that is "Ortho's Clover, Chickweed and Oxalis Killer". Anything with Triclopyr in it at reasonable levels (8% or so). Did you read the Triangle Approach to weed control. It directly addresses this situation at Level 2. I read it, that is why I looked for something with the...

Yellow Flowers/Weeds in my Lawn
Okay, so I've got to be quick. I'm holding up the family on the way out the door. I had the problem listed in the link below: http://aroundtheyard.com/northern/brown-dead-lawn-t19428.html I followed the advice from andy10917 listed below: http://aroundtheyard.com/soil/soil-report-request-for-help-t1...

Re: Soil Report Request for Help
20 Mule Team Borax "Detergent Booster" is the right stuff. See https://www.20muleteamlaundry.com for the web site. For price, I can't imagine you'll be able to beat Walmart or Target for the 20 Mule Team Borax -- it's about $4.00 for a 4-pound box at either of these "big box" retailers. I guess eve...

Re: Soil Report Request for Help
Sigh... Okay, I was going to place an order for the Milorganite if they had free shipping. I didn't realize there were different types: Milorganite 0636 Nitrogen Fterilizer, 36-Pound, Milorganite 0650M Classic Professional 6-2-0 Organic Nitrogen Feterilizer, 50-pounds, Milorganite 62036-MW Organic M...

Re: Soil Report Request for Help
Hi, I'm placing my order for the micro-nutrients. As noted, I found them on amazon through alpha chemicals. I can't find 20 Mule Team Soap, but I found 20 Mule Team Detergent Booster. Is that the same thing? Also, a company named Milliard has Borax Powder for cheaper than the 20 Mule Team booster pl...
