Re: 2016 Southern Lawn Pics

One suggestion I would make, if you intend to make this your final homestead, think about pruning your trees to grow up Instead of leafing out unrestricted. I have to get them trimmed every year, these were trimmed just a few months ago. That is a canopy of 4 trees between me and the neighbor, but ...

https://s32.postimg.cc/ocuyq6h4x/image.jpg Not quite there yet, but much improved since the beginning of the year. Thanks ATY! Several neighbors that use Trugreen or other service have been asking what I do, their lawns are fried right now in 100 heat. [ Post made via iPhone ] http://aroundtheyard....

Re: Found This Interesting Topic on Cool Season Forum

Yes I have several huge oaks trees and many other random trees. I live in the Woodlands after all. My home is 17 years old so the trees are mature and need a lot of water.

Re: Found This Interesting Topic on Cool Season Forum

I typically get too much thatch that doesn't allow water penetration from irrigation. With good amounts of rainfall, no problems. Rainfall seems to penetrate down to the soil better than the meager drops that I get from irrigation. It sounds like you may not be irrigating enough. I know there are d...

I don't think I used a surfactant because of the warning.

Re: Celsius on St. Augustine

TSGarp007 - No idea what kind I have, we didn't install it and I haven't tried to figure it, but I don't think it is Floratam. Floratam is more sensitive to certain herbicides that don't seem to affect my grass. I think I remember Celsius did not have a special warning for Floratam so you should be ...

Re: Found This Interesting Topic on Cool Season Forum

I have never tried the Hou-actinite and just found a source for it not to far away. I will have to try it out. Might as well spread my own local sewage sludge instead of shipping it from Milwaulkee.

Re: Found This Interesting Topic on Cool Season Forum

I dropped Milo at half rate on my St. Aug a couple weeks ago and my lawn is looking greener, though not a deep green. And the temps have been almost 100. I didn't want to overdo the N because it was already growing fast, so just did half rate. But I think the rules are different for cool season gras...

Celsius on St. Augustine

I just wanted to post some pictures of the effects of Celsius on St. Augustine applied at high rate above 90 degrees. I know some people on the forum were wondering if this would cause damage. The label said this could cause growth regulation, and that is definitely the case. But the grass is not da...

Re: Stagnant St. Augustine Growth

Do you use a spreader with an edge guard? The edge guard will put more product right on the edge. If you think about it, all the fertilizer that hits the guard falls straight down instead of spreading out over 2 feet. Same thing happens to me. My guess is the uneven growth through out the grass has ...

Re: Stagnant St. Augustine Growth

I also wanted to add that the heat + humidity in Houston area over the past few days has been brutal. I've had to water more than I normally would because the grass was looking stressed. Make sure you are watching for a change in color, folding blades etc. and water when it needs it. It may be more ...

Re: Stagnant St. Augustine Growth

How long ago did you put the Microlife down? Did any of the heavy rains happen soon after you put the microlife down? I'm wondering if it has not had a full 3 weeks to work and/or some of it got washed away in the heavy rains. Also 10 lbs of the Microlife is around .6 lb of nitrogen, so not a full p...

Re: St. Augustine Triangle

I contend that lawn pests remedies are a temporary solution. None of them are ever a once and done solution. I agree, weeds will never be totally eradicated, seeds blow in the wind and are washed into your lawn from water drainage. My neighbor next door has pretty much 1/3 St. Augustine, 1/3 green ...

Re: St. Augustine Triangle

Ortho Nutsedge Killer turned my St. Augustine orange and crispy! I'm glad I only used it on a small area to start. Sedgehammer worked much better without the harm to the St. Augustine.

Re: St. Augustine Triangle

I'll let you know how the image works on the nutsedge. I'll try to take photos if I can remember. May not be as cost effective as mixing yourself, but those sedgehammer packets complete with surfactant that you just mix in your gallon sprayer seem pretty user friendly. My fert schedule is 16-4-8 ( ...

Re: St. Augustine Triangle

I think your plan sounds pretty good. Basically the same herbicide plan I have, though my timing on prodiamine is earlier here. I would not recommend using a hose end sprayer for any of the herbicides (prodiamine, atrazine and especially Celsius). You may not need atrazine again in the Fall if you u...
