Re: TTTF / KBG mix
Unless I'm working with a completely bare or dead area, I have never had success getting a different variety of seed in to an existing area and have it look any different. Most of my lawn is northern mix, but I love TTTF. I've seeded 100% TTTF in former brush areas of the yard that I've reclaimed an...

Spring lawn decline (typical)
What causes the typical spring lawn decline after the initial surge on a northern mix lawn? I tend to get good green-up and density in April (did the full fall regimen last year), but after a few cuts the color goes pale and the density starts to fade. Some of the grass gets "stemmy" too. Cutting at...

Re: Strange looking grass blade, doesn't match the other perennial Rye
Annual rye will die in late spring. I would pull them or leave them until that time.

Best seed cover (other than peat)
I know peat is a favorite cover for seed around these parts, and I've used it myself for small, flat areas with good success in the past. I believe washout has been a significant factor in my failure to get germination in a few areas this spring. I'm particularly challenged with some sloped areas. S...

Re: Strange looking grass blade, doesn't match the other perennial Rye
Has the potential to be annual rye which is what I think I have in a TTTF mix. Light green, fast grower, ridged with a midrib on the leaf. I've found that it's settling down after 1-2 cuts, it may be dying back or blending in more.

Velocity and Xonerate
I know the subject products are very expensive but it seems that 400-600 a bottle is far cheaper than a full renovation on 1/2 to 3/4 of an acre. There seems to be some promising results with these products and triv that I’ve seen online. Am I crazy for considering purchasing one as a first attempt ...

Re: TTTF growth habit
Follow up on this question, with some pictures. I have what I believe is annual ryegrass, though I'm not ruling out quackgrass yet. I am confident it's not poa trivialis, though there are some similarities. I have extensive patches of that elsewhere in the lawn and I'm able to distinguish between th...

Re: Ground cover under shallow rooted maple
Thoughts on liriope? Spent the weekend at a theme park where most of the trees were under planted with liriope.

Ground cover under shallow rooted maple
All I have two younger (less than 10 years planted) trees on my property. One is a small hickory tree that provides some shade and is in a more shaded part of the yard. The other is a small maple tree in a sunnier part of the yard. I had wanted to put a ring of ground cover under each of the trees t...

Re: TTTF growth habit
Could be...annual rye (though it’s second season so I would have thought it would not be back after winter) I got the impression that you renovated this last fall, not two years ago. Remember, annual rye dies off in the summer (usually), not the winter. It was last fall and maybe that’s my culprit....

Re: TTTF growth habit
I’ve got a lot of triv issues in other areas of the yard, and though the color seems reminiscent of triv, the veined leaf blades give me some comfort that it’s not.

Re: TTTF growth habit
Like I’ve said in some of my other posts, I found out this seed has 2.31% other crop which I’ve learned could be ANYTHING, but is usually seeds of similar size. Could be K31, annual rye (though it’s second season so I would have thought it would not be back after winter), or something similar. I def...

Re: Sources for seed
No offense taken. You are right - I could have saved my money by now, and I agree. Just verifying there weren’t any good quality, affordable solutions before I sprang for something like sod quality. Clearly the Tractor Supply seed isn’t it, didn’t know if there were any value leaders out there, or d...

Re: Sources for seed
I get my seed from Hogan Seed Company. The tag says 0.00 weed and other crop but is not sod quality/certified. I'd get a TTTF and KBG mix if I had to do it over again. The repairability of the KBG would be really nice. With TTTF the only solution is to overseed. Thanks. I've been looking at a coupl...

Re: Sources for seed
I stand corrected in my note above: my recent source was Tractor Supply who sells DLF Pickseed. There were three varieties of TTTF in the mix: Annihilator, Warhawk, and Mason. The first two seem respectable, can't find anything on the third. I think the real problem was in the rest of the label: it ...

Re: Sources for seed
Preferred seed is an online vendor, super seed store as well but they can get pricey. Good for researching though. You can get seed cheaper if you can find a valley Green type store that does seed mixing, I found them to be about 50% cheaper than SSS...... could make things worth a drive. Thanks. I...

Sources for seed
All, Looking to see where you buy your seed, both online and locally. Since I've got 1.5 acres, I was thinking of switching exclusively to TTTF for future renovation work. I had been using a home-blended 90/10 mix of TTTF and KBG to somewhat match my northern mix. I'm open to other varieties as well...

Re: TTTF growth habit
The plant has a medium-sized veined leaf with no mid-rib, so I was pretty sure it was TF.
I cut it two nights ago and it's looking a little better. Going to give it some more time to see how it grows through in the early spring. Not much I can do about it now considering pre-M is down.

Re: TTTF growth habit
No Tenacity, just gave it a Dimension treatment, I don't have much choice but to go with it though. I'm going to start cutting it and see if it settles in. Otherwise I will re-renovate again this year (frankly getting a little tired of renovating with these kinds of results!).
