I'm confused... GDD tracker and freezing temps
So its been about 30* for the past few days, including an ice storm and more snow expected today, yet GDD tracker says soil temps have continued to climb in my area (NE IL)... what am I doing wrong?

Re: Where Is The Forsythia Line?
Some weeds are starting to pop in my yard (mostly near heat sources like the driveway, curbs and sidewalks), but no blooms yet. There's no harm in applying pre-em now, just that it will be a few weeks less effective, right?

Re: Where Is The Forsythia Line?
I believe you're absolutely right Timmy. I'm assuming I can't use this bush as a similar indicator to Forsynthia. Guess I'll probably just plant a Forsynthia plant when I re-do some of my landscaping this year lol

Re: Mowing lawn after aeration and overseeeding?
I tried the mowing low before on a strip or two as an experiment this year. If I mow much lower than my normal 3-3.5", the good grass seems to react poorly (yellows pretty bad due to scalping) When you guys are mowing as low as a 1" cut, are you experiencing the "good" grass showing a lot of stress/...

Re: Grass at edge of driveway dries out as days get hotter
Is one better than the other, or should I combine? Or is it really just whatever is easier to find?

Re: Grass at edge of driveway dries out as days get hotter
Thanks to you both, I'll try the screwdriver idea.
How does one use peat/pine pellets for this kind of issue? just sprinkle over the browning areas and irrigate? (never used either before)
Thanks!

Re: Grass at edge of driveway dries out as days get hotter
Hoosier, you mean just right on top of the grass or dig it up, put the peat or pellets down, and replant? Can you explain a bit more please?

Grass at edge of driveway dries out as days get hotter
So I'm wanting to do something for the grass that borders by driveway. As the days heat up, it tends to dry up and sometimes die as a result of the heat coming off the black asphalt. My question is, what can be done here to help the grass? My only thought was to dig out next to the driveway about 6-...

Re: Applying pre-em to seedheads?
You need to check local laws. But in most jurisdictions you'd be in violation of state laws. You need a license to apply such product to another person's property. You'd also be be "altering" the plant life. I don't think you'll find much support for applying product to someone else's property here...

Applying pre-em to seedheads?
Hi there, I have what I believe is Poa Annua growing in the field behind my house. I could try and kill it off with Tenacity, but then I'd have erosion issues since its on a rather big slope, plus I'm not "allowed" to mow or alter the plant life. It is all gone to seed which concerns me since my law...

Re: Dale's Soil Test for Front and Back Yard - 2016
Between all the rain we've had, the single app of 10-10-10 and two apps of Milorganite so far, the lawn is looking like a carpet! So far so good! Will apply the next app of 10-10-10 next week some time.

Re: French Drain to remove excess backyard water?
I have a good sized farm field behind my house that drains right through the middle of the yard over to a storm water drain. Prior to installing the French drain it would remain soggy all spring. Now, I rarely have soggy soil back there. The one I made was small at 12"x12"x55'. With 4" sewer pipe i...

French Drain to remove excess backyard water?
Details of my yard are rather simple, I have a walkout basement and thus, all the water from the top of my lawn, winds up in the first third of my back yard. Combine that with my neighbor's gutter flowing towards my house (natural slope of his lawn goes towards mine), and I get a swamp each spring w...

Re: Thinking about Fall overseeding with Bewitched/Blueberry
Not to hijack this thread too much but have you purchased your Bewitched? I meant to be ahead of the game this year and purchase early but seem to have possibly missed my window. Where are people buying their Bewitched from this year? https://www.seedsuperstore.com/catalog/p-100027/bewitched-kentuc...
