Re: What's Going on With My Lawn?
My lawn has that too. It showed up a week ago. It's weird, I've never seen it before. Mine is a northern mix from SSS. I noticed it on a neighbor's yard as well. Hard to tell on other yards. It stands out more on higher maintained lawns. I'm not sure what it is?. The pattern does match fallen leave ...

Re: Best time to kill and reseed?
You can seed directly onto the ground, and rolling it in is optional. If you have been fallowing, the ground will get pliable. After I nuked my lawn, I cut the grass down close to ground, and it was the few times that I use a bagger. It’s a good idea to cover the seed bed afterwards with peat moss. ...

Re: 46-0-0 Urea
I haven't been doing the fall "aggressive" feeding, but I use 46-0-0 for the winterizer. And for that I use a Wizz spreader. I fill it up for 2K at a time (I put the wizz on scale and tare it out), and walk in both directions. I've gone thru a couple of them in 4 years, they are like bic lighters. F...

Re: Best time to kill and reseed?
You can add a tracker dye to the glyphosate, and keep an eye on how windy it is. If you need to get close to desirable plants, you can use something to block the spray like cardboard. I use a piece of plexi. I renovated by killing a zoysia lawn. I remember starting to fallow around the 4th of July. ...

Re: Extremely dry weather - irrigation plan
I have a well, and it takes me about 1.5 hours/zone to put down .41”. I have seven zones/10-11K turf. I use ten cans to measure and no matter where I put them within a section (spread out), I get the same value, but the levels vary between cans. Enough to make a difference to have a few dry spots, i...

Re: humate recommendation for JT
I was thinking the pelletized product, The Andersons Humic DG. Yes, for organic feeding, I apply Bay State @.44 N/M --- May 1st, June 1st, and I now I'm thinking July 1st (or last week of June) mixed with the Andersons? Then I apply a Bay State Sept 1st. So it ends up being 1.5-2 #s of organic N. I ...

Re: Artists?
Cool stuff! This one is an oil panel done on a trip to Denver last summer. It was done in about a two hour window, before the light changes. For me, quick decisions and directness is the aesthetic for this kind of stuff… Felt like I had one hand tied behind back, because I needed to pick up some gen...

Re: Serenade Sticker Shock, any big box sources?
I get the 2.5 gallons from seven springs farm, but they also have quarts, for a better price than amazon. The shipping brings it up tho. They are a good vendor.
I got BSF down today also, and applying Serenade/KH/yucca tomorrow. I start on the early side for red thread…

Re: JT's 2020 soil test
The lawn has got multiple apps of Bay State, Turkey litter, cracked corn, ton of clippings, shredded leaves and top dressing of compost. It’s just not going down 4”. Argh! I’ll put boron and manganese down. Technically 4 years of treatments, as this year hasn’t happed yet. It was a piecemeal renovat...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Sprayed yard with prodiamine 65wdg. This was a two weeks or so earlier than last year, but the forsythias are turning yellow. I need to remember to have extra check valves on hand. I left one in a wand over winter and it got gummed up. Getting rain overnight into tomorrow.

JT's 2020 soil test
This is my 5th year doing soil tests, first 3 were thru Umass lab, then I switched to Logan Labs. I took 10 samples points from my lawn (which is 10.5K) and took sample from the spot between 3” and 4”. Last year I got 2 apps of calcitic lime/ebsom salt down (the ph has improved over four years from ...

Re: Mowing height - what are you at?
It took a month to get from 4" down to yesterday @ 3.25". September was mowing every 3-4 days. Wasn't too aggressive this year either, mostly BayState, about 1#N or so starting mid August (and lots of clippings). Now things are starting to slow down...I think...

Re: Rain and Serenade
Tough to find a stretch without rain. I took a chance and sprayed yesterday as well (Serenade, KH, and molasses). It makes me feel better that I put an extender in it (nu film 17). I’ve yet to find a source that says it shouldn’t be mixed with Serenade. It has the viscosity of honey, and leaves a st...

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Mowed yard and sprayed serenade/kh mix with nu film 17 as sticker. This is second application two weeks apart. Today I could see early signs of red thread, so glad I started treating early. It’s been very rainy. I got in an application of cracked corn a week back.
