Re: Rate Your 2018 Season Results
This was my first season jumping into this larger yard. Previous owners always had someone fertilize. A LOT! So expectations were high from the neighbors. I had a lot of grass that didn't wake up. Not thatch. But a lot of dead grass under the canopy. I did a light detach with a pull behind rake, but...

Re: How to Mow a Snow-Covered Lawn
I just took my mower off and already put my snowblower on after I got done mowing/mulching Friday right before it snowed. I did have some frozen clumps of leaves and grass and a tad bit of snow in some shady areas I mowed.

Re: Snow cover anyone?
The first bit of snow we got melted enough to get out there one last time. I ended up bagging the back yard since there were clumps of grass and leaves that didn't break down enough to get into the canopy. This was simply because I didn't get out there enough this fall. There were some frozen clumps...

Re: Snow cover anyone?
You poor guys out there. Ours melted enough that I am hoping to get out today before we get another 3-5 inches starting around 5pm. Doesn't look to warm up either. I am assuming growth has stopped, but I still don't know 100%. We still have a handful of trees with more leaves than not.

Im not a firm believer in soil temps myself. I'll figure it out but more or less pondering what the weather is going to do and how to get things done accordingly.

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
Still slowly growing here in Mn. I mulched up leaves yesterday and was still cutting grass. 5 days between mows. Guessing I am north of you (I am just east of St. Paul). I mowed on Thursday the 1st and took .5" off for the most part. Some spots with less, but no spots were without clippings. If wea...

Snow cover anyone?
So here in Minnesota we got some snow last week. Just enough to cover the ground. It's been under 30 degrees out since. I still have trees that are not done yet and my front yard has some piles of leaves that I need to mulch. My back yard has a thin blanket of mulched leaves and grass that I was hop...

Re: Heads-Up: It's Time to Talk "Leaf Mulching"!
My oaks are 1/3 maybe done as of today. Though I tried something for the first time. I put the blower and shoot for the bagger on but not connected to the bags. Hoping the blades as well as the blower fan would chop the leaves up a bit more. It worked well. Except when I would turn around the one di...

Re: Carbon-X ??
That's twice the cost of what I spend now so I am out. I know Matt seems to be a pretty straight shooter. But I know some guys that said they wouldnt drink the kool-aid either but once they got in a certain position they started brewing it themselves. Im sure it's going to be decent stuff. We shall ...

Andy, I have seen lately there has been some research into the need for the final app? Or the amount needed.

Re: What's the difference between a cheap lawn tractor and a pricey one?
I would definitely say go for a higher end used one. I was in your boat a yr ago. Did all the research etc. When push comes to shove you are better off. A lot of the cheaper ones you can't work on trannies. So do your research. I ended up buying a used JD x540 with almost 1k hours with a bagger and ...

Connor is a member on here. Just do some research. Lots of guys do it that mow low. You just have to watch how much you put down at a time. Its a marathon, not a race.

Re: Lawn Winterization in Wisconsin
Too late now for any growth. Frost has hit so the lawn is getting ready for winter. Not a good time too fertilize now.
Wait till turf stops growing and throw down straight urea.

Re: Winter grass damage - snow plow
I would say the poles also, but like you said they will just plow them over. I had a neighbor across the street at my old house that had the same issue. It was just a bit of a curve in the street and they would always take out a ton of his yard. He did put up poles that helped. But not sure if it wi...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
Yeah, im completely aware of that. I did see this yard the previous spring and I don't think it looked as bad as what it did this year. I just also had a lot of grass that did not revive that was not thatch, but under the canopy that I had to use a detaching rake to clear out. I know there could be ...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
Andy says he turns his back on and waters in. Then re winterizes. That's too much work for me on my large l lawn. Last year we didn't get any rain after top growth stopped. I still did the last app since there was a chance for rain. I'm not sure if I will do it again? My lawn took a very long time t...
