Re: How to Interpret Your Own Soil Test Report

The reason they chose low CEC soils ( <6 comlc/kg) is that they wanted a safety margin. In their thinking, if a certain level of element provides good turf in a low-nutrient holding soil, that same level in a higher-nutrient holding soil should also produce good turf. This statement interested me e...

Re: Where were the "BTEP" trials conducted?

One of the last remarks I read was about the performance of Blue Velvet. He made mention of a monostand of it. It has me interested. There isn't much on the site about using it as a monostand or a majority cultivar. [ Post made via iPhone ] http://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/images/mobile/iPhone.png ...

Define "working".

And no, I wouldn't start doing that. I wouldn't stop either.

Re: The Aereo People Just Won't Go Away...

Why is providing an alternative to the cable monopolies a bad thing? And regardless, this is a welcome development for the considerable rural population not served by cable companies. I wish them good luck (and hope they serve my area as quickly as possible). [ Post made via Android ] http://aroundt...

I dropped my ammonium sulfate today. Expecting 1-2 inches of rain in the next 24 hours. Glad I waited until now.

You don't mention where in WI you live, but I get my gypsum at Menards or Blain's Farm and Fleet. Works great and awesome prices. No need to go fancy on this product.

Re: BTEP: Year 2 - 2012

Great. What cultivars did you end up using? Why? And and how did your reno turn out? Thanks I never did a reno, lol. Someday I will, and when I do, I think I'll do the dreaded monostand. And the lucky cultivar will be: Blue Velvet. At times, other cultivars outperformed it, but BV was the most cons...

Yeah, my pump is spotty (doesn't prime very well), but so far I've been able to keep it running by cleaning it every now and then.

Re: Pull behind sprayer recommendations

I've had a Fimco 40 gallon for five years now. This spring I had to buy $200 worth of replacement parts to get it up and running again. The frame had rusted out, the axle was scored, tires cracked, wheel bearing shot, various screws missing, etc. Tearing it down and rebuilding it though made me more...

Re: Granular Iron 50%

Barley hit the nail on the head -- it's right on the linked page -- "derived from Iron Oxysulfate". is this a bad thing? The key is context. Iron oxysulfate is produced by partially reacting iron oxide with sulfuric acid to yield iron oxide and iron sufate, although you still end up with mostly iro...

Did it not come with application instructions? Post the label. My bet is that this is iron oxysulfate.

Re: Possible to have a showcase lawn on 1.5 acres?

I have a lawn over an acre, and my response is "it depends". Yes it can be done, but at a high cost, both monetary and time wise. If this is your only hobby, then go for it. If you have other commitments, it gets dicey. Would you be satisfied with pouring in 80% effort for 80% results? With all my o...

It's still there if you look really hard. But 16 different KBG cultivars really look the same with no inputs.
