Re: Growth Regulator vs Spring Growth

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I found this post through a search for "PGR", and no one ever responded. I just ordered a gallon of T-Nex from Amazon. It's pricey, but it should last me 2+ years. I'm not so concerned about growth and mowing, but in reading through 20+ pages of posts on another ...

Re: Yellowing in known problem area

I'm dealing with the same thing here in south central PA, and I've also come to the conclusion that it's leaf spot / melting out. I treated it a week ago with propiconazole based on a recommendation from this forum, but this source says azoxystrobin (Heritage, DiseaseEX) is more effective, http://ww...

Re: Reminder: Time to Start Prepping for Summer

(1) If you did the Fall Nitrogen Regimen last Autumn, it will start to run out of steam in the next 2-3 weeks - have that fertilization ready to go as the signs point to the need for a first real application. What are we looking for that it going to tell us that last fall's N is running out of stea...

Re: Fungus? Does it require treatment?

Now is a good time to hit with fungicide anyways. ETA: Every spring i get hit with that and apply Propacanazole. Works well for my situation. I'll do two apps, one spring and fall. Thanks HLG. I actually settled on Propiconazole based on your comments in another fungus thread I found through a sear...

Re: Fungus? Does it require treatment?

Here's another resource. It's a PDF with images of fungal diseases. Each image includes a description and "Labeled" or suggested appropriate fungicides to treat it. https://www.syngentacropprotection.com/assets/assetlibrary/syngenta_diseaseid_guide.pdf Thanks rxrep, that's a good resource. After so...

Fungus? Does it require treatment?

I just noticed some browning blades in my otherwise healthy KBG yesterday. The brown blades are pretty sparse right now, and spread fairly evenly throughout the lawn. Someone who doesn't look at the grass as often or as closely as I do probably wouldn't even notice it. I'm pretty certain I've had is...

Re: First time backyard owner looking for some tips on my new grass!

I actually don't think that looks too bad for what it's been through. Like Dchall said - all you can do at this point is nurse the grass you have through summer. If it survives and you start working on it August 15th, you could very nearly have that carpet of grass you're looking for by October. Loo...

I have an Exmark 30” commercial walk behind that I love. It gives me a better cut than my John Deere lawn tractor.
Do you have any trees, hills, things to maneuver around? I'm reading that the Exmark can be a little big/heavy for that kind of mowing.

Currently I’m shopping for a commercial walk behind.
I'm looking to upgrade my walk behind as well. Have you found anything interesting?

Thanks Andy, I'll watch for the flush. We're not there yet, I'm mowing about every 5 days right now.

Raising HOC in spring

I'm currently mowing my KBG lawn at 2.5", the same height that I finished at last fall, and the grass seems pretty happy with that. My lawn is very nearly 100% awake and growing, we're getting ample rain here in southern PA. I have some damage from last season (chinch bugs I believe) that needs to f...

Saturday - applied Milorganite at bag rate.
Sunday - applied BLSC in anticipation of the rain we received last night and this morning.

Re: Honda HRX 217 Suction issue

This thread made me realize that I'm not crazy. I purchased a used HRX off Craigslist 2 years ago and it has always left a ridiculous strip of uncut grass down one side. I basically take half-width stripes to compensate, which makes my mowing take twice as long as it should. I always chalked it up t...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

My ProPlugger came in the mail so I had to try it out. Moved probably 25 plugs around to repair some damage from last summer (chinch bug I think) and some other bare spots. I wasn't sure on the timing of plugging (is it too early?) but with 1.5" of rain in the forecast this week I figured I'd experi...

I'd say 50% greened up here in southern PA. .5" rain and 70°temps this week seem to have flipped the switch.

Re: Serious lawn problems (long post)

Have you found a local source for urea? Being in Lancaster County you have to have fertilizer suppliers around. Find out who the farmers buy fertilizer from and get your urea there. I pay $16 for a 50 lb bag here in Franklin County. I've also bought 50 lb bags of potash from them and it's much cheap...

Dropped mine yesterday. Forsythia are blooming here in PA and we had .5" of rain last night. Timing worked out pretty well.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Yesterday I replaced the carburetor in my HRX 217 and mowed, mostly to chop up some twigs and leaves that gathered over the winter. Also applied prodiamine, forsythia are blooming here in PA, and we had .54" of rain last night. Timing worked out well.

PreM (Prodiamine) effect on KBG spread

Kind of a long story - I have a section of my yard that I did a spring reno on last year, Bewitched monostand because I had some leftover seed on hand, about 1100 sqft. It was "mildly" successful. It's thin right now, but pretty evenly covered, so I'm hoping I can nudge it to grow this spring and re...

I'm looking at the HRX-217VKA but I'm not sure I can spend $599 +tax. Hopefully it will go on sale soon.
I snagged one used off Craigslist for $200 last year. Look around, you might get lucky.
