Re: Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues
Thanks for your post KSU, sometimes misery loves company. :| The affected turf never dies, just looks terrible Yup, same thing here. Same exact thing happened to me last summer so this year I tried far less fertilizer and didn't apply any fertilizer since about late May. No difference, looks just as...

Re: Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues
Maybe my shredded grass is because grass is in poor health? Here is another pic of fungal issues. I know identification is difficult through pics, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Otherwise I may need to send it in somewhere for ID. Would love to avoid fungicides, is there anything else I c...

Re: Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues
Bought a Toro super recycler and a tachometer. New mower is running at 3100 RPM.
So process of elimination here, if it isn't the mower, what is it. I've yet to sharpen the blades on the new mower but they look reasonably sharp from the factory.

Re: Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues
I think I'm going to just buy a new mower later today. Things I can't stand about the HRX: 1. Mulching at 3.5" is fine, anything lower and it leaves large clippings all over the place no matter how frequently I cut. 2. The drive system seems to be failing (doesn't work right until engine warms up an...

Re: Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues
Believe me, I've checked the installation of the blades numerous times, they are correct. I'll buy a tachometer and check the RPM. And yes, I use a torque wrench to tighten them to proper spec. I believe HRX RPM is supposed to be between 2850 and 3100 but I'll double check the manual. Started Fall n...

Re: Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues
I have not had mower RPM checked but will do so. The tips are actually less affected, the picture was a cut of the top 1/2" of grass right after a mowing. So really it would be the middle section of grass to the base that is most affected. Despite lots of googling over the past year or two on variou...

Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues
Two issues I'd like to address. First, I just finished mowing the grass, here is a sampling of the top of the blades. Looks torn to me, as always. I've tried sharpening my blades at different frequencies, looks like this even after they are just sharpened. I've also tried having the blades sharpened...

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Didn't really "DO" anything to my lawn, but I was SHOCKED when observing it just how effective effective winterization is. My lawn, even though it is slow awakening Bewitched, has taken off way ahead of the neighborhood and will need to be mowed well before the neighbors even though I haven't fertil...

Re: PreEm vs no PreEm
I find it amazing just how effective pre-em can be. Last year had literally 3 or 4 spots of clover pop up but outside of that, was basically weed free in my front lawn.

Re: Rate Your 2018 Season Results
My goal for this season was: Backyard - completed a renovation. Reno went well, lots of rain thinned out certain areas, but nothing so devastating that a Philes regimen in Spring can't fix. Front: Front was renovated in 2017. Had some grassy weeds to deal with including Triv. Completed 2 apps of Cer...

Re: Where Are You With Fall Regimens?
I winterized as well yesterday. It rained for a bit and then we got 5 inches of very wet snow that should melt away by next weekend.

Re: Aggressive fall N plan in michigan
Must be a little colder where you are at smontgo. I am going to be in the low 40's Thursday and Friday. No snow cover where I am at right now. Going to mow my test area one more time but I suspect my overnight low of 22 degrees and this recent cold spell is going to shut things down. Wouldn't be sur...

Re: Aggressive fall N plan in michigan
Too early in Michigan. Snow will melt and it will likely warm back up into the 40's. My grass was growing about 3/8" of an inch every 5 days at last mowing a couple days ago.

Last app was 10/16, solidly in the pause at this point. Grass is still growing, slowly.

Definitely still growing here as well. Last year I winterized Dec 4 so I imagine I at least have a couple of weeks left.
