Re: New mower

Mulching; that’s all I do. I haven’t had a bag on the mower in years. Keep the blades sharp and the motor running well.
I bought a well used Honda hrx(?) several years ago and it has worked well. I just wanted a good mulching mower and have no complaints.

I'm in Charlotte also. Where do you find urea around here?
I haven't lived in CLT area for a few years now, but I recall "Farmers exchange".

Clover (in the legume family) is a nitrogen-fixing crop and, I imagine, shouldn't need to be fertilized, at least not with nitrogen.
I hadn't thought about it like that, thanks. I'm so used to getting rid of clover, now I want it to grow like crazy.

Dry farming and expectations; working on both now haha

Any thoughts on fertilizing clover (deer mix seed) with urea this time of year? I'm thinking in terms of the late fall/winterizing regimen.

Re: Excellent mulching mower recommendations.

I use a rider with mulching blades. It does well enough through out the year. When I need to do some serious mulching I'll fire up the Honda push mower.
Sorry it's not a recommendation :)

Re: So I got a visit from Tru-Green today!!!!!!

It's been a few days, Have you decided on what you are going to do?
Is it time to make lemonade with those lemons. Some thoughts....move a sprinkler or two that you didn't like the coverage? Add some compost?

To sum up, this is basically a religious war.

They’re both good brands.

Re: Core Aeration - Overseed and Fill

For what it’s worth...a couple years ago after moving to this home I had planned on core aerating. Article after article how it was a must do in the fall. Got bids and had it scheduled. Found ATY and started reading. Cancelled the aerating and started applying BLSC/KH instead. Probably my first goo...

Re: Questionable dry dog food on lawn

Sorry if I wasn't clear. My concern was mainly if it would be wise to toss it on the lawn if it was possibly contaminated with something like salmonella. I wasn't sure if it would be an issue if the area wasn't used for edibles and didn't get a lot of foot traffic from the dogs. I don't know a lot ...

Would any of you toss it in the front lawn if the dogs aren't in the front yard?
Personally I would; Plan on watering right afterwards to help break it down.

Re: Likeasponge Food Plot 2019

That's great news, and a fairly easy. Thanks for reviewing this. I had thought the Phosphorous number was higher than normal? (compared to my lawn (300)) Any reason why or what might cause that? Also, just for my learning process, Is the Magnesium/calcium ratio close enough to "ok" for this plot but...

Re: Alfalfa food plot for Deer

Thanks, Ill get it posted.
Good to know the amendments wont need (most likely) to be tilled in.
We plan on tilling just to break up the old grass clumps and try to get a good seed to soil contact.

Likeasponge Food Plot 2019

As I posted in the water cooler, were working on a 1.5 acre deer food plot. Its been a pleasure to hunt so far, taken more than a few good bucks but we'd like to turn it into a food plot that really brings in the deer. Its a south western facing plot that has a slight slope to it surrounded by plent...

Alfalfa food plot for Deer

I'm helping out with a 1.5 acre plot that has seen some real nice bucks on the game cam, but they are far and few (just after sunset). The plot has been in its natural state for about 5 years now. It seems to do pretty good for the natural grasses there now. But we'd love to plant and have a lush gr...

Cool, I'll get some boron, zinc and a 5 gallon bucket.

Thanks

I love to visit the soil, er, i mean the in-laws, haha

I will admit when I saw the soil test I was envious.

Looks like if they change some lawn maintenance habits, they'll be set. I'm hoping they are willing to use a pre-emergent this year.
I'll get the micros worked out. Thanks

likeasponge in-laws soil test 2018

The in-laws have not historically done well with the yard and I thought I would help them out. Starting with the soil test: They have around 12K of a mixed Kentucky blue grass, rye blend (my best guess). Currently mow with a riding mower. They do have an irrigation system :) and plan on getting the ...
