Re: 2016: What did you do on your lawn today?

Can you guys help me out with a quick question? Having an argument with a friend about oak leaves. Do they make the soil acidic when they're mulched and put back on the lawn?

Re: What did you do on your lawn today?

I get tons of weeds in the winter down here. More than in the summer.

We're still in the mid 80's during the day. About the only thing I've noticed is that I can go a little longer between mowings.

Re: What did you do on your lawn today?

I tend to get lazy with my lawncare in the winter so I spread a few lbs of weed and feed yesterday. This is the first time I've ever used a "weed n feed" so it's kind of an experiment. It was 24-0-4. Also put some pesticide down because I've seen evidence of cutworms and possibly grubs. [ Post made ...

Re: Getting wiregrass out of blueberries

Took out another privet/ligustrum yesterday. As you can see it's a pretty substantial root ball. The trick is using that post hole digger. It's just a 5.5' long piece of steel with a sharp edge, but it makes short work of the roots. I've removed about a dozen so far and only have 3 left to do. http:...

Re: Getting wiregrass out of blueberries

You just have to get to the roots. Mine were 15' tall but I still got them out. Each one probably had 5 major roots that were 1-2" in diameter and then a bunch of smaller roots. It's hard work but that's the only way to really get them. Unless you can tie a strap around them and pull them out with a...

Re: Getting wiregrass out of blueberries

Why can't your privets be dug up? I've dug up about a dozen from my yard.

Dropped 36 lbs/k of milo yesterday before the rain. Due for some potash in a couple days.

Re: Lawn care after excessive rain.

Thanks Tony. Thinning the tree is on the list but its not at the top of it. Been spending a lot of energy I the backyard lately. Finished building a raised garden bed for growing hot peppers, dug out about a dozen 15' tall ligustrums and planted 4 foxtail palms. Still have some more to do out back t...

That area in the foreground is a little thin still, but it hasn't gotten any worse. Don't plan a funeral just yet.

Seems to be doing fine so far. Zoysia loves the water apparently. Think I'll just continue with the same plan. Might spray the st augustine with a fungicide.
