Re: Gryd's 2014 Front Yard Renovation Take 2

I’m bored this year. I broke my ankle 11 months ago and I’m taking it easy this year. I’ll consider surgery this fall. Major work on my lawn is on hold until next year but my 2014 renovation is still going strong. No weeds. No poa. I did hire someone to mow and fertilize this year. Fertilizer compan...

Re: Fastboat’s 2022 front Reno- second time’s a charm?

It’s been 7 years or so since my first ever Reno, with slow degradation in overall quality, plus an exterior house renovation caused some damage this Summer. I’m going with a Bewitched mono stand like I did in the back yard 3 years ago. I’ve significantly torn up the old lawn and disturbed the enti...

Re: Finding KBG seed 2022

Picked up seed from Preferred Seed. Noticed SeedSuperStore has their Sunny blend back in stock (they’ve been out since March). Their Sunny Mix has Mazama KBG. Too bad they don’t sell it separately. I have Mazama growing in back. It’s a gorgeous dark green and does incredible in shade. Better than B...

Re: Finding KBG seed 2022

How did you 2022 renovators manage to get seed? There’s still some options out there but this is a brutal year to find sod quality seed. Certified, Blue Tag, seed is easier to find. I managed to buy Bewitched, Mazama and Moonlight SLT. I’m only doing a small area this year but I purchased enough see...

Greg,

Thanks. The Bewitched at Stover Seed--when you certified, what do you mean specifically? Also, I'm not familiar with them. Did they have a minimum order quantity? Seems like most places are 10 lbs and up these days. Thanks!
I was able to order 10 lbs of Blue Tag Certified Bewitched.

Re: UMASS Soil Test Backyard

I'm rolling both onto this thread. First, your full name and addy appears on the form. You'll want to break that link right after the read. This is going to be very basic because I don't trust the minor or micro reads and have doubts about the majors. So I'm going gentle, and on the low side. You'l...

Yeah, I'd recommend a retest through Logan. While not internally inconsistent, the test is a bit limited. I don't have a good internal rulebook for UMass any longer and, although I could read this, my read wouldn't be anywhere near as good as for Logan.
Morph,
Can you give it a shot?

UMASS Soil Test Front Yard

Hi Guys,

I used UMASS for my soil test. Got results back in a week. Was hoping I would get some recommendations from UMASS but I still need advice/help.

Here is my Front Yard

Re: Lesco Spreader

I'm sorry, I just saw this post... My experience is that you may be overthinking this and some overlap is fine, so I'd focus on 8 ft spread means 6.5-7.5" paths. It is never perfect and with modern broadcast spreaders, it really doesn't have to be. My understanding is that the old drop spreaders te...

Re: Finding KBG seed 2022

So, I ordered Mazama and Midnight SLT from Williams Lawn Seed. Stover Seed has certified Bewitched so I ordered that as well. I plan on doing one small area in a couple weeks. I’ll do the rest of my side yard next year so I bought enough seed for that. I’m having major back problems this summer so I...

Thanks everyone for the compliments! Here are photos from a couple nights ago, taken mid-mow. https://i.postimg.cc/5HSZ799W/20220531-201844.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/s1Nb0Nzx/20220531-203845.jpg It's funny. Re: Light Green KBG in Spring only

Absolutely. I just hit mine with molybdenum (undetectable on my test), boron (very low), and copper (low) and color has never been better. I got the extended ($30) test this year, I'll do so next year just to make sure I hit the groove, then won't need it again for ten years. I fertilized a week ag...

Finding KBG seed 2022

In case you haven’t noticed, there appears to be a shortage of Kentucky Bluegrass seed this year. That said you can still find enough seed for a renovation if you don’t mind spending a bit more and purchasing seed from more than one source. If you are looking for Bewitched you’ll have to settle for ...

Re: GRYD’s 2020 KBG Backyard Renovation

This is year 2 of my background KBG renovation. To be honest, in March I thought it was a failed renovation. Lots of bare spots, Poa Annua and moss. I had no idea what went wrong and was thinking my renovation days were behind me. I did dormant seed the entire area in January but I thought that fail...

Great to see that this 7-year-old renovation is still looking great! You've clearly done an awesome job maintaining it, gryd! Thanks. That was by far my most successful renovation. I get many compliments but not nearly as many as the Bedazzled lawn that preceded it. We serial renovators love dark b...
