Re: Thin lawn under Silver Maples
Grass needs sun at some point in the day to survive, though some types can tolerate more shade than others. Fescue does better than most in dense shade, especially fine fescue. Can you cut off some lower hanging branches? That can allow more morning and evening sun, which can make a world of differe...

I guess I didn't need to water yesterday after all. It has rained most of this morning. I will take it!

Mowed. Found some Milo at Greenfield Walmart and spread it on the front lawn. HD was completely out and have been for weeks. Then watered about an inch. We need rain badly here in central-east Indiana.

Re: Milorganite Summer Feeding
You have to remember, companies like Milorganite's suggested feeding schedules are very generalized and are really geared towards the average homeowner. The average homeowner needs/wants a company to tell them what to apply and when because they don't know much about fertilizer or lawncare in genera...

Sprayed some kelp and humic acid on the lawn. Then I broke a lawn rule by watering the front lawn in the evening.

Mowed the front just to cut the dead tips off. Then put down pre-emergent.

Finally found the time to put the mulch kit back on Exmark. Leaves are starting to fall fast. Lawn is looking good. Am cutting at 3" now.

Re: Going dormant?
Yes, definitely an odd September. It has been in the upper 80's in Central Indiana for over a week and it looks like we will have 4 more days ahead just like it. I put down a full dose of synthetic nitrogen a little over a week ago and now wish that I didn't. o well. Sprinklers are coming out tomorr...

How old is your Bewitched Monostand? First year KBG lawns are not fully established and need more care.

Re: How many gun owners do we have here
The only other online forum I'm apart of is Indiana GunOwners. It's nice that there are some gun nuts on here. Shooting guns and reloading has been a hobby of mine for a long time. The lawn hobby is a more recent one.

Did an application of Serenade on the front lawn. Neighbor stopped me halfway through to let me know my lawn is making his look bad. Haha love it!

01redcrew, did you get any rain the last few days. I got about 1.5 inches over the course of 3 days here in central-east IN. If so, is the lawn looking any better?

Re: Greener lawn
So you mention wanting a greener lawn and possibly using a weed and feed product, but didnt mention anything about having weeds. Applying post emergent herbicides by way of spreading granulars are typically not nearly as effective as liquid. Nothing seems to make my lawn as green as Milo. But it wil...

Wait, so you don't want your lawn to stand out from the neighbors?
Haha in all seriousness, Perennial Rye will establish very quickly. Basically have a full looking lawn in 30 days, but might be a shame to go through all that to just turn around and kill it.

Re: Warning: Herbicides & Temperature
If a herbicide says don't apply when temps are above 85*, does that mean at the time of application, or when daytime highs are above 85? Example: You have a week of 85-90* temps during the day, but mornings/late evenings are around 65-70, is it still ok to apply during the cooler temps? I have the ...

Mowed and edged.
Then i finally burned the giant pile that had built up from all the branches that had fallen from storms since last fall. It had been way too long.
