Re: Yellowing on slope
My guess is very little top soil on the slope. I'm close to you in Lenexa. I've used that same testing company before and recognize it. Anyhow my test is very close to your results. I was actually a bit lower on some of the micro nutrients in my back yard. I think I'd put a spade in the ground near ...

Re: Northern NJ lawn - recommendation for post-emergent Crabgrass product
Yeah they seem to be throwing quinclorac and sulfentrazone in a ton of products these days, but you need to be checking the application rate compared to the stand alone product as sometimes these kickers aren't at a high enough application rate. I guess it depends on the use case though.

Re: Tell me why I'm wrong
And, no matter how hard you try, you'll get other junk in there as well. I spend more time saying "now what the hell is this" than anything else! Even that changes with time. You get to the point where you can identify weeds at full walking speed. My wife thinks I go out to enjoy the lawn, but I'm ...

Re: Brown Spot
I'm no fungus expert, but some of these pathogens readily develop resistance to fungicides. Please do your own research, but alternating fungicides with different modes of action is sometimes recommended. You can't just assume a different AI in the product is a different mode of action on the fungus...

Re: TTTF Monostand
I was thinking about doing a 4th Millennium SRP monostand. I have too much shade in the back and I'm in the transition zone so I though sticking with the TTTF was the way to go. I have brown patch issues most years so I guess I'm not too concerned with the genetic diversity requirement. I don't beli...

Re: Getting overwhelmed with weeds
Life finds a way. There is a habitat there ripe for life to take hold. You're going to struggle with weeds in the bare spots. I might just tarp it until you're ready to seed in the Fall if it's not to big. Unless is something like KBG that can spread with time, but it's asking a bit much to fill in ...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Well I walked through my once very green and dense turf. The brown patch came on so quick! No symptoms to problems all over in just a few days. I walk the lawn a lot so it's not like it was apparent before. I'm going to have to either alter some cultural practices or consider pro-active fungicide ap...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I put down emergency treatment of Fame (Fluoxastrobin) and went ahead and did my grub control (imidacloprid). I think I caught the brown patch early enough to prevent widespread damage. Watering it in right now.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I hurt my back over the weekend so I had a buddy who does lawncare come do a mow today. I noticed some brown patch on small area that I seeded about a month ago after having a tree removed. I thought it was confined to that small area due to the extra watering efforts, but today's mowing is showing ...

Re: KBG cultivar(s) for showcase lawn?
Some of us might have done better if we picked our bride from a catalog... I think the disease resistance information is super valuable when choosing a monostand cultivar, especially if the cultivar performs well over several years in the trials. Obviously aesthetics are the focus. I also val...

Re: KBG cultivar(s) for showcase lawn?
You can go down the rabbit hole of looking at the ntep turf trial reports. They have the 2016 interim report out now and you can try and find a trial location close to your home. If that's not possible I guess I'd pick one in the same climate zone. Not all test varieties are available for sale howev...

Re: Honda HRX 217 Suction issue
I won't buy another Honda unless they change the deck/blade design. It's nice that some people have wonderful machines that work correctly. Mine doesn't. I think the vast majority of homeowners cut their lawns short enough that the problem doesn't show. Mine starts showing the issue at 3'' hoc but i...

Re: Mower Blade up keep
I do believe the blade gets duller much faster when cutting seed heads. I sharpen at the beginning of the season and re-sharpen sometime after the grass goes to seed at this time of the year. I sharpen once a again in the fall so essentially 3 times per year.

Re: Milo + Microbial Soil Conditioner for Heavy Clay?
I live in the KC area and commonly see the Earth Right soil conditioner sold around town at the local nurseries and smaller hardware stores. There is a clay problem around here. A local "lawn celebrity" also endorses the product. As they disclose very little on their website about the formulation, I...

Re: Irrigation Question
I run my sprinklers manually unless I'm leaving town. It's not a big deal really as it's only once a week or perhaps twice a week in the heat of the summer. I may give my grass a brief afternoon cool down if it's 95 degrees plus but that's not a true watering. If I notice the need for water, I simpl...

Re: What type of 2,4-D?
Mostly because I get to see the dandelions die faster. The formulation I use also seems to work better on clover and wood sorrel without having to break out the triclopyr. I'm not sure if it's the ester form of the 2,4-D or the carfentrazone kicker in the mix.

Cut at 3 inches, no more fertilizer, and see what happens.
