Adam_M 2024 Soil Test

Well, I'm back for another year! Thanks in advance for all of the help you've offered over the years. 2023 wasn't so bad - I got the sprinklers out when needed and the lawn seemed to respond. It was slow going for most of the year as far as growth - especially the grass that was re-seeded fall 2022....

Re: Herbicide Shelf Life

Hmm - I don't think I've ever seen any of the liquids on the shelf frozen, and there are plenty. I'd say it gets close, but doesn't freeze.

Herbicide Shelf Life

I've got a bottle of Certainty from 2018, which at the rate it goes down, I've got a ton of left. I also have the last ounce or so of a bottle of Tenacity from 2016. As of last year, the Certainty still makes everything unhappy (but the triv a tiny bit unhappier - but not dead - ugh) and the Tenacit...

Re: Wire-Free Robotic Mowers

Thanks for the advice! I was hoping you'd chime in because I knew you were on team robot. What do you mean you have to watch the wired ones a bit? So - how much of a pain is the wire installation? Given I've got 1/2 mile of guide wire to install if I go that route, do you think it needs to be trench...

Wire-Free Robotic Mowers

I really quite like the idea of a robotic mower, particularly one that can mow in predictable patters, i.e., straight lines and ideally without guide wires. I'm also a big fan of not needing to install about 2500 feet of wire. I've got to imagine that the wire-supported systems are pretty much a sol...

Re: Fall nitrogen and soil remediation

I ended up going the conservative route and put down the full dose a couple days ago.

Urea will go down around Thanksgiving if the weather is typical.

Fall nitrogen and soil remediation

I'm about due to drop my next and final dose of 19-19-19 for the season and was pondering whether there's a benefit to spoon feeding to deliver the same amount of n as the aggressive fall program. The product I have is 11.6% urea and the balance ammoniacal nitrogen. I'd probably end up getting anoth...

Re: How to get rid of Hedge Bindweed

I think I read about this approach on this website once upon a time. I tried it once with good results. Take a mason jar or pickle jar or similar and fill it part way with Roundup. Then work loose the leading end of the vine (cut it at a convenient point if you need to). Stuff the vine leaves and s...

How to get rid of Hedge Bindweed

Any suggestions on how to attack this foe? It seems to root all over the place and intertwines itself with shrubs/plants, which makes hitting it with roundup a little scary - even painting it. I've tried to RU leaves/portions that aren't way into the other plants, but with well ..no success.

Re: Grass turning Yellow

Occam's razor eh? Water. So, I just pulled a plug from the problem area (and it always starts here, but varying on the year, I can lose the entirety of this area - ~6K), attached. And oddly enough, I do have both a soil test from the problem area (the 6K, not this specific spot - although take it so...

Re: Grass turning Yellow

The soil is the spoils from my basement during house construction. Yes to the screwdriver test, the soil is remarkably uniform in the entire area. No rocks, and there was never a tree there. It is on a slight (and by slight, mean literally a few inches) knoll, but the problems spread to about 6k of ...

Grass turning Yellow

I've got a spot of my lawn, the spot where my inevitable summer decline starts. I'm hoping we're early enough to head off whatever is going on. Grass was planted in September 2022, and isn't even close to needing cut yet. I've actually sent this patch of grass to Rutgers in previous years and their ...

Re: Weed Control Regimen

Actually...

it seems like sulfentrazone may be an answer here to the clover/creeping charlie and nutsedge - the Ortho product is labeled for it. Would a blanket spray of a sulfentrazone herbicide be able to replace the sedgehammer and the triclopyr?

Weed Control Regimen

I've got a little of everything growing, and had a few questions on my planned regimen. 2-4-D is down for the salad greens. Triclopyr will go down 2 weeks after the 2-4-D application. Is this timing correct? The weeds both of those affect are pervasive enough that I need a blanket spray. On to the o...

Re: Adam M 2023 Soil Test

Sounds good. 19-19-19 at 5lb/k every month except July and August? How much time do I need to wait between the full dose of Milo and the 19-19-19, given it only went down a week ish ago? I've gone as close as 2 weeks before but I'm going back to basics too make sure I'm not making mistakes. I'll get...

Adam M 2023 Soil Test

I'm back for another year - thanks in advance! So - the story for 2022 was the lawn was OK, except for color in the younger grass, sort of until a portion of it died in the late summer, so I re-seeded, again, in the fall. It is probably easiest to tell the story with a link to a thread or 2. The gra...

Re: Spot of really nice grass among ...less strong grass?

We don't have dogs so my experience there is limited, but this is interesting nonetheless - especially that the burn only happens in hot months. Seems like we need some N. I just dropped Milo + Boron (yes, a guess on Boron, but I was at .51ppm last year around this time last year and missed an app l...

Re: Spot of really nice grass among ...less strong grass?

There's definitely weeds. A lot of them. The wispy looking one is seed heads from bittercress. There's also clover, and a a myriad of other things. 2-4-D is going down soon-ish, followed by Triclopyr and then we'll re-assess.

I've got triv, but not here. I saw 1 p.annua plant too.

Re: Spot of really nice grass among ...less strong grass?

Thanks! Is this a stay the course situation and drop N in mid-late May or should I move that up?
